Problem: Live TV pauses, info bar is displayed (HDHR streams)

I never got around to installing TestFlight on my Apple TV but in recent days this pausing has become intolerable.

Before I go through the bother of installing TestFlight on my ATV, can I just ask if the fix from the beta has made it into production yet? Because if it has, it’s not working for me.

I have had this issue for months with no solution presented that works. The info bar appears. The picture freezes for a brief second. It seems to be increasing in frequency lately. I submitted diagnostics a moment ago again.

This is really making channels an unacceptable TV experience. A solution is needed.

Using DVR 2022.03.23.0209.

I had the same issue starting some months ago (UK) and just recently decided to tidy up my aerial connectors… now all 100% signal strength/quality and symbols quality across each tuner in my two HDHomerun Connect Quatros.

Since that time nothing, not a problem. Perfect for nearly 3 weeks now.

I also chucked in an SSD into my Synology DS220j but that’s just to keep the system happier when trying to record 8 TV channels (proven good on 8 HD@ most on around 5Mbps)… pretty impressed.

I have 100% on every metric for my signal.

It’s not anything to do with my storage because this is with live TV. And my server is an M1 Mac mini connected via Ethernet which is about as fast as you realistically get.

Pretty sure this is a software problem. A few months ago this started. It got a bit better for a while. The last few weeks it has got much worse.

Keep in mind that the strength metric only goes to 100%, even if the actual signal is stronger. HDHR tuners are very susceptible to over-powered signals, and quality diminishes if the signal is too strong.

While your situation may be different, it is certainly something to keep in mind.

Yes, I had problems with this, the picture kept cutting out, the stats reported in HDHomeRun actually weren’t all 100% (can’t recall which were lower now) but the signal was overloading the internal amp.

I got support from silicon dust. They advised I got a specific filter and since installing it the signal has been perfect. The pausing is with the channels interface. It is a very different issue.

Please submit diagnostics from the app after you experience this and we’ll check it out.

Please could you remind me how to do that from the appletv?

Please go to Settings -> Support -> Submit Diagnostic Logs from your device and let us know when it's been submitted so we can have a better idea of what was going on.

Oh defo not to do with storage… just a mention on how pleased I am with the performance.

It’s a weird one defo and sounds like a pure coincidence that it has stopped (for now) on mine.

In case it’s something to do transmission content, I’m in Yorkshire (Emley Moor Mast) UK.

I’m London UK with a direct line of sight to the Crystal Palace transmitter.

“Specific Filter”

Can you share what this is

Here is what they sent me:

In that case, it might be a type of low frequency interference that we've occasionally seen in the UK. We have found that adding a high pass filter/braid breaker can greatly improve reception in cases like this. Examples include these:

Filters (top item)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ancable-Filter-Coupler-Adapter-54-1000MHZ/dp/B07CNQ6PKX/

After ordering one of them (I think the one from Amazon), I attached it and got them to rerun diagnostics to check that the issues were resolved.

This has also been happening for the last few months. Australian free-to-air, AppleTV via Ethernet, no DVR server. Connected to Silicon Dust HDHomeRun (latest firmware).

Tonight it would happen but then freeze on the channel with info bar showing – I couldn’t play/pause or scrub the timeline. Had to switch to another channel and back to resume watching. Happened twice the same.

Hi, I’ve just done that. Thanks.

Does the pausing occur in Channels with tuner sharing set to On?

Does the official HDHR app running on the same apple tv have any pausing?

I couldn't find a setting for tuner sharing? This is the stand-alone app – no DVR.

Haven't ever used the HDHR app.

Sounds like your signal is cutting out, or your tuner is failing. You can try the official HDHR app to compare behavior. You can also check the signal and strength levels on the HDHomeRun device web UI

Can you remind me where the tuner sharing settings are? I believe I have it turned on but can’t remember where the setting is to check.

I haven’t tried the HDHR app. Will download it.
