Prompted to complete setup / Log on daily on Fire tablet

I have been experiencing this persistent problem on the Channels app on my Fire HD8. Almost every day, the first time I open the app, I am taken to the "Welcome to Channels" page and prompted to complete setup.

It resolves and connects every time when I manually enter the IP for my server. So, it's not a show-stopper, but it's annoying and time-consuming to have to do this on a daily basis.

This problem only exists on my Fire HD8 (10th Gen) tablet. I recently changed over to the Beta version to resolve other issues, but this particular problem has persisted even after the version change. I also have the Channels app on two FireTV sticks and an iPhone, but have not experienced this issue on any of those devices.

Please submit diagnostics from the app thr next time it shows the welcome screen and does not automatically connect to your server.

Is this at home or remotely?

It's always at home. It's a WiFi-only device that normally stays on the home network.

When I've taken it on trips, it seems to connect through the my.channelsdvr.net link without too much trouble, but I do that rarely enough that I can't be certain that it's not also a problem.

Thanks, I will do that.

It happened again just now. i submitted diagnostics from the app.

…and again this morning.

It's showing a timeout trying to connect to your DVR

io.ktor.client.features.HttpRequestTimeoutException: Request timeout has expired [url=http://10.0.1.106:8089/status, request_timeout=3000 ms]

Interesting... So how can I troubleshoot? The tablet seems to function well, and I generally run one (max two) applications at the same time. Or is it an issue on the server end? This is the only one of the four apps I have that regularly fails to connect.

Is there any way to change the timeout trigger length?

Try loading http://10.0.1.106:8089/status from a browser on that tablet and see what happens.

Are you able to load this url in a browser on the tablet? How long does it take to load?

http://10.0.1.106:8089/status

Yes, it returns the following:
{"arch":"x86_64","booted":true,"description":"the daemon powering Channels DVR","features":{"bonjour":true,"bytelimitedhls":true,"comskip":true,"cpu":true,"dev":false,"dvr":true,"events":true,"guide":true,"m3u":true,"nat":true,"on_later":false,"playon":false,"remote":true,"roku":false,"tmsimgproxy":true,"transcode":true,"tve":true,"virtual":false},"name":"channels-dvr","os":"darwin","prerelease":true,"start_time":"2021-09-23T08:27:18.014122-04:00","subscription":"active","url":"https://getchannels.com/dvr","username":"Skoot","version":"2021.09.22.1709"}

It loads quickly:

If you quit and restart Channels app does it connect?

The problem is intermittent, and not happening right now. I typically start the app 3-5 times daily on this tablet, and have to go through the Welcome page at least one of those times.

My usual solution is just to type in the IP, at which point it connects with no further issues.

Is it happening when you turn the tablet on and the Channels app is already active? Or are you turning on and then clicking into Channels?

I rarely restart the tablet (maybe once a week), it usually just goes into sleep or "show" mode when I'm not using it. But yes, it happens most frequently the first time I wake the tablet in the morning, or after a long period in sleep mode.

I don't recall ever having this issue when the app was already open or active.

My first guess would be poor wifi connectivity. My fire tablet sometimes has flaky wifi. Usually disabling and re-enabling wifi or rebooting it fixes the issue.

Thanks. That could be the source of the problem, in which case I just have to live with it, unless there's a way to increase the timeout interval.

Is there a try again button that appears on screen? Or is typing the IP the only option?
