Seems strange as the guide data for mine shows the Hornets and Kings playing, but if I tune in on TVE I get American Ninja Warrior with the NBCSCA logo. Screenshot_2021-02-28 Channels Guide

If I tune in with my HDHR Prime tuner it's the BBall game, but with the regular NBC Sports logo. Screenshot_2021-02-28 Channels Guide(1)

Last week I got a message from xfinity I needed to reset my password. So I did, and of course xfinity for channels wasn’t working. I have been down that road before, so I waited a few days and the. Just tried again. Still doesn’t work. And, 5 minutes after trying to log in via channels, I have another email from xfinity saying I need to change my password to protect my account. Channels is causing this.

Update your dvr to the prerelease first.

I have been following this topic closely the last couple weeks because I wanted to install Channels at my mom's house and she has Xfinity. I was concerned because of all the issues people have been reporting and I just want to report that I followed all of the instructions for a RPi USB Boot image and it all worked perfectly first try. I was careful to disable 2 factor authentication to her login and I upgraded to the current prerelease before I added the Xfinity connection. It took a while, but I got all the channels I expected and everything is working perfectly so far. Thanks!!

I just got the password reset email as well. And I am running latest prerelease.

Is this going to be the state of things? Hate to say it but I’ll remove TVE if I’m regularly having to deal with their password reset stuff.

I'm thinking it might be triggered by multiple TVE recordings at the same time.

Think of Xfinity seeing your usage (authing for network streams) and suddenly sees two or more channels being watched (recorded by channels) at the same time? Not really sure what causes the Xfinity password reset issue, other than something they're looking for and found. I'm assuming they think you shared your credentials and that it's not just you accessing the streams.

I was testing it and doing multiple recordings and channel surfing when I had the issue before.

Now I mainly just use it to record a couple channels.and tune Live infrequently and haven't encountered the reset issue since doing this.

You'd think that because they know the requests are coming from your Xfinity IP they wouldn't be concerned. They know that this activity is coming from your home. Which makes me think that they explicitly don't like what Channels is doing. I'll give it one more try - looks like I am in the 3 day (or so) penalty box where I can't log in for now. I do wonder if the Channels devs are able to figure something out. I have been enjoying using TVE, but if I'm going to have to jump through these hoops every month or so, I am not sure I would want to deal with it.

I had a flurry of issues with the password resetting several months ago. I set Channels up with its own login and I have not had the issue since. I'm just guessing but I think the issue is with multiple devices with multiple IP's hitting the same login. With Channels being the only device that uses that login, it has not happened again. However, my main login did reset during an outage when I was hitting my account from multiple devices checking for updates but this did not affect my Channels login.

I hope this helps in some way.

I've always had Channels set up with it's own xfinity login. And not sure what you mean by multiple IPs hitting the same login.

During the outage, I was using the login to access my account from my phone. It also isn't unusual for me to access it while away. I could easily access the account from 5 different IP addresses (external) in a day -- especially during an outage when I access my account a lot. Again, just a guess, but the timing fits in my situation. Regardless, I doubt Xfinity is actively trying to thwart our efforts to use TVE with Channels. Their account security just needs to be tweaked to prevent so many false positives -- again, just a guess.

Oh, are you referring to using a single login with both Channels as well as other Xfinity apps? I have always used a dedicated login just for Channels, so that shouldn't be a factor.

A little more insight into why this may be happening (from Wikipedia):

" Password sharing

There have been instances of users deliberately sharing their TV Everywhere login credentials, or having them sold without their owner's knowledge on the black market, in order to allow others to view programs without subscribing to the channel. Charter Communications CEO Tom Rutledge, and ESPN's executive vice president for affiliate sales and marketing Justin Connolly, have considered this practice equivalent to piracy. In December 2017, it was reported that television providers and program distributors had begun to implement measures in order to discourage this practice, including reducing the length of login session, reducing the number of concurrent streams allowed on a single account, and monitoring unusual usage patterns such as large numbers of concurrent streams on a single account—especially those originating from outside of the customer's region, or during major programs.[48]"

Well, technically, you are NOT "password sharing" when you have created a separate user account dedicated for that friend or family member to use. Comcast has and welcomes sub accounts for use for different people under the one main account.

We have had as much as 8 sub account for a few years, each one, someone else part of the family, in different locations has used one, they get their own comcast email and access to the xfinity stream app.
One even moved to another country and used the sub account for nearly a year to stream.
Now, I am the only one using TVE, and only using it in Channels, I very very rarely use them to login to a network app or site independently. It also has been years since i have used the Xfinty stream app.

It has been months since I have had the forced password reset thing happen.
According to the devs, they fixed it in pre-release while back...but, there seems to be other factors still cause some users issues.

It was figured, that this issue only affected users who had a Channels DVR setup outside of the home location of the account holder and on different ISP connection(like me, who uses a sub account, i have had for over 15yrs, from my folks Comcast service. They live 25miles north of me and Comcast is the only provider so they are forced to have them, and they are old school and not tech savy, so they pay for traditional cable tv.)

I have used Channels for over a year, at least, with Comcast TVE as the main source, and had no issues. Then I only noticed issues when channels would not load and gave an error....multiple attempts at loading channels, or re-adding Comcast TVE, triggered that password reset email for me. Then it kept happening after a while, with no change on my part.

But, there are several people who have posted here that they do run Channels DVR at their home with the Comcast tv and internet service, and they have this issue to....So, I do not think that the core issue is them trying to fight so called piracy or "password sharing". It also defeats the purpose the TVE and remote stream ability, for them to try and say or make it only work when you are at home and on a home Comcast provided connection.

Well something about Channels is triggering this. I only use Channels at home, and have a dedicated xfinity sub account for TVE (it's not used for anything else).

Same here.

I wasn’t accusing anyone of doing anything wrong. I was just offering insight into why they do what they do. Cable companies have a long and frustrating history of punishing everyone because of the deeds of a few bad actors. You can blame Channels all you want. I don’t think that’s correct but we’re both just guessing anyway.
