Getting an {“error”:“unauthorized”} when trying to access the QNAP app after receiving authorization code. Any ideas?
Firewall ports have been forwarded, etc.
What URL are you hitting in the browser when it shows this error?
Try accessing the local ip address of your NAS on port 8089
I’ve tried the following
dvr-myns.local.:8089
10.1.1.1:8089
Tested different ports, forwarded ports, disabled firewall (untangle firewall) ,
I get to the following page:
“Get Authorization code” and when i click on the authorization code link it brings me to another page and gives me an authorization code in the following format: e0c0aa4c4676f95653b24c7e7a5ecc786e38fa76fa073e84be1487006a9fe523
I then input that authorization code and get the following error. {“error”:“unauthorized”}
The page you’re seeing is only supposed to be shown when requests are made from outside the network.
What is your local IP on the computer making the requests to 10.1.1.1?
my QNAP IP is: 10.1.1.1
the computer that i am using to access the DVR on my QNAP is 10.1.1.3
What browser? Can you try a different one? Are you using any web proxies?
no web proxies.
My standard browser is chrome, however i tried Microsoft edge and Safari. I also uninstalled the QNAP app and reinstalled it but no luck. I installed the DVR on my macbook and it works fine so i have to assume there is a configuration error on my end. I assume you have other people who have installed and are using QNAP devices as their DVR?
I’ll continue to troubleshoot and when i find a solution i will let you know.
Thanks for your assistance

Super strange. I have a QNAP-251+ and did not see this issue. There have been various other QNAP testers through our alpha period.
I looked over the code and verified that your 10.1.1.x ip addresses should be working. Will keep digging on my end too.
I’m getting an “Error during authentication” message with QNAP as well.
I was getting the above error but replaced domain the local IP and I got past that error. I tried both Chrome and Safari.
Hopefully this is just something simple.
What device and OS version are you running on the QNAP?
adding my QNAP Model for reference. Model TS-451 and firmware 4.2.2.
4.2.2 here as well.
TS-451 and 4.2.1
Sounds like a separate issue. Can you post a screenshot?
Also, started channels on atv and saw the dvr section appear. Went there and it gave me another url to try http://dvr-servername.local.:8089 so I went there and it brought me the logon screen. Went through the motions this time using my iPad and got a different error:
An Error has occurred
The redirect uri included is not valid.
Can you access the interface using local ip on port 8089 and complete the login that way?
What is the IP of your qnap?
No, it doesn't work with the local IP. Mine is 10.0.1.9. I'll try the screenshot again.
No dice. On safari on iPad I visited the link. Clicked log on and immediately got the same error.
Then I opened chrome on iPad. Did the same thing. This time when I clicked logon it brought up the logon page, I selected twitter and entered twitter credentials. It took my credentials and redirected me back to channels community but nothing else. Almost like it it forgot to go to the DVR application and tell it I authenticated. If I start over it immediately gives the above error.
Can you email the logfile /Users/xxxx/channels-dvr/data/channels-dvr.log to [email protected]
