Raspberry Pi 500

Wondering about this device as a potential server replacement for my lamented Nvidia shield. I was successful in moving the server from the shield to a Lenovo Windows 10 laptop, Using the Shields here as clients now, but was wondering whether this would be a better option. I’ve seen the discussions about the Bee link devices, Seems like there are a lot of configuration options, The way I use my server is basic. I am running an OTA antenna, TVE through Hulu live, and Pluto.

Input appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Stay away from the pi. If you search the forums you will find a lot of posts from developers saying as much.

Additionally, there's not a single thing you'd gain from having a keyboard and display attached to the computer running your Channels DVR Server. You access its admin via a browser.

Thank you. I wasn’t sure about that detail, glad to know it doesn’t need those accessories, obviously didn’t have them when using the shield as the server… duh

My other concern is I have no clue about Linux, my experience is limited to Windows and MS-DOS. Is there a Linux for Channels DVR Dummies available somewhere I could use to get it set up and functional?

Here's a recent topic, covering exactly that.

Although it doesn't "teach you Linux", it will at least get Channels DVR running on it.
There are plenty of resources available if you want or need to learn Linux.

Beelink comes with windows if you want to use that. It wouldn’t be any different than your laptop. Getting a Beelink doesn’t tie you to Linux. Linux has it’s advantages but it’s not required.

Thanks! I didn’t realize that. While undoubtedly there are better options than Windows for the server, Windows is what I know so there’s a comfort level. What would be the optimal specifications for a Beelink ? I looked at it and was bewildered by the numerous options.

Thank you!

N95 or n100
For what you are doing with it an n95 with their base ram of 8gb will be perfect. Since you are coming from the shield I’m guessing you already have an external hard drive you can use with it so you can choose the smallest hard drive model. If you want to ditch the external drive then get one with the storage you require.

Here is one for $129 if you have prime.

Curious about the MINI S.
I've looked at them on amazon and some mention they come with Windows, while others make no mention of an included OS.

Do you know if some come with and some without an OS?

I bought a mini s12 awhile back. There was no mention of windows in the Amazon description but it did come with windows pro installed. If it shows up without windows, it’s pretty easily returned to Amazon.

Thanks !
