Recording didnt start because tuner was in use

I was with WMC for about 8 years prior to joining the channels crew this past summer. - so i wasn't expecting what happened

On Saturday i was recording the Duke mayo and sun bowl with 2 of my HDHR Prime tuners and using the 3rd tuner to watch something else on my PS3 - I think it was hoops. When the Duke may bowl ran late , the Gator bowl start was shifted to ESPN News, and i set a recording for 330-4 pm via the iphone app

I later come to find out my ESPN NEWS recording didn't start because all tuners were in use.

Again, i can only go by my experiences.... IN THE PAST WITH WMC , a recording took precidence and would kick off the "viewing channel" - i remember my ps3 would shut down, and when I tried to re-tune, I would get the message that "all tuners were in use".

Maybe I missed something, or maybe this is a suggestion, **but i think it would be a good idea if that happened here as well, A RECORDING should overtake the viewing. as a priority
Maybe because it was WMC, things were different and I understand that things are different now.

Not all was lost, because i always still use my X1 dvr as a backup (just in case) - and was able to capture everything, just needed to spend the extra time to offload the recording onto my HTPC before editing, and joining things together

I understand what you're saying, but there is no tuner conflict resolution in Channels DVR (aside from it trying more sources if you add them).

One could also argue that a user should have control. What if there were some urgent broadcast you were trying to view when Channels DVR disconnected you so it could record something else much less important at the time.

This reminds me of what my 2-tuner TiVo does: if one of the tuners is busy recording, and the other one is currently in use for live viewing, a banner is displayed on top of the screen with a message asking the viewer if it's OK to change the channel to record a show.

Other DVR software does provide a pop-up option on the screen asking the user what to do when it recognizes this condition about 5 minutes in advance. I believe that if the user does not respond that the scheduled program will over-ride whatever is currently being watched and the DVR will change channels automatically.

... but yeah, it would require some conflict resolution logic.

this would be exactly the solution I would like.

I am glad that others confirmed my experiences and that my observations are correct.
I also hope that some type of hierarchy of recording >> viewing can be developed

give me the option on screen. at the time of the event

.... or in a setting of which takes priority...
