Recording Issue w/ Episode Number Conflict

So one issue I haven't been able to solve, even by creating a new recording schedule (Mondays 7:30pm), is when a show's episode number is repeated the next day, but is new. Before the show in question, Inside Edition, use to list the show as Inside Edition Weekend, but now gets listed as Inside Edition with the Sunday episode (11:35pm) being the same number as the weekday show on Monday at 7:30pm. Typically, Channels DVR also states the Sunday show as Monday, I guess either when airing late due to sports or other live event, or it just lists it as such since it ends on Monday around 12:05am.

I think there just needs to be more advanced recording options, that have a manual start and stop time, as the listing metadata can be completely off in many ways, leading to incorrect recordings or none at all.

If I understand the main points of your post:

  • you are aware that the guide data is incorrect in some cases

  • you are requesting the capability to schedule recordings manually

It is actually possible to schedule manual recordings now but this is not part of the official product.

There are a few different ways of doing it. If you do a search for "manual recording" in the forums, you will find good information. :slightly_smiling_face:

The actual answer is that channels needs to provide a true record everything option like TiVo has so that you can get around bad data.

Been asked for many times...

Why not make two Series Passes?

One for the weekday editions (SID=184110) that records Monday-Friday

One for the Weekend edition (SID=186638) that records Saturday-Sunday

Well you seem to have the correct metadata, with the weekend episode listed as a different series. It changed here months ago and then broke. Also I can't create a pass since it thinks it's a duplicate, so it doesn't show as queued as in my screenshot. Curremtly I just have to schedule a manual recording eveey week for the most future Monday show. It'll hard ignore any episodes with the same episode number, as is by design going back to earlier this year:

v2026.02.17.0524

• FIXED: a TV episode could be recorded twice if a guide update added an earlier airing of that episode

Expanding upon the manual recording feature request, I still don't like if a show is precluded by another show and the recording time hits, it will record the precluded show. I've manually adjusted the end time to an hour out to get the entire show I want, but I can never just say record at this time knowing how long the show is being pushed back.It comes back to incorrect and delayed guide metadata.

Are you saying this pass won't pickup the weekend edition?

or do something like this

CONTAINS are OR'd

Strange, this works for me (Notice it doesn't record on Sundays, only weekdays)

Look at the second episode 239, it's just a gear icon, not queued. It won't record. But I see that's for tomorrow on Thursday, but the same thing will happen for me with a Sunday and Monday episode with the same number.

Correct, because it scheduled the 9:30AM airing to record.
I could change it to only record at 3PM.

Not if you change your pass to only record it on weekdays, like my example.

Pause your current pass and add a new one like mine to see.

Yeah, no matter how I set the parameters, it sees the Sunday episode and has me go kick rocks. If I create two passes, one for Sunday and weekdays, or if I say record everything (but exclude Sunday) as a single pass, it will ignore Monday. I'm only working with series ID 184110. That's how the Sunday episode is set in the metadata.

I guess if I could create a cron job to edit the metadata, but I think it's a binary data file that will probably just get corrupted.

I can't duplicate that.

But you have separate series for weekend and weekday shows. I don't, so it just wants to hard ignore it as a later airing, although I'm telling it not to record the first. The scheduling engine is rather rigid and simplistic.

I've submitted issues/requests for years here and by email and nothing has been addressed. I've just been comtemplating writing my own server and client apps that blends Channels DVR and Plex. I've tried Emby and Jellyfin too. They all pretty much suck.

All I can think of is using the days and times you want it to record in the pass, like my example, but adjust for your airing times you want to record (7:30pm ?).

Yeah, I tried that as two, and even just one pass ignoring Sunday. I've tried pretty much all of this when the series consolidated into a single show a few months ago. I have to just manually record the ones that won't auto-queue on Mondays.

As per @mjitkop, I'm going to play around with the Windows frontend scheduler.

Did you pause your current pass and create a new one that doesn't record on Sundays?
I don't understand how it's scheduling the one for Sunday and not Monday if you did that.
Unless you have more than one pass that's not paused.

all you should need is 1 advanced pass with the following

if all others you made for it are deleted or paused and it's not showing as you expect, i'd try doing a delete and recreate database in maintenance

Did a delete and recreate too. No dice.

You must have unpaused passes scheduling recordings for it then.
