Remote access

I have a TP-link Archer C7 v2; can’t figure out how to get the remote access to work. I upgraded the firmware today and I have upnp enabled. I get this message under enable remote access:

Error: Failed to discover router… Enable port-forwarding for 8089 manually.

https://portforward.com/tp-link/archer-c7/

[site has instructions on how to port forward… just ignore all the advertising for their “software” and use the web interface on the tplink to manually port forward 8089 to your server].

Basic steps are:
-set static address or dhcp reservation for the server
-log into web interface
-add portforward

Post any upnp errors from the Log tab.

I guess the router doesn’t support upnp or has some issue. Setup a manual port forward like @TeddyR suggested.

so do I put 8089 as the servce port and leave the internal port blank?

8089 for both ports

Still doesn’t work. Also, the router has no trouble with upnp for remote access to the NAS (TS-453 mini)

Could be an issue with our upnp implementations. It is working with other routers, and I don’t have a TP-link to reproduce the issue and fix it.

Either way, a manual port forward should work. Do you receive an error when you try to access port 8089 while not on your home network?

I made a port forward with service port and internal 8089 and then for the IP i used 192.168.0.200 which is the static IP i assigned my NAS to, however, I still get an error when I try to enable remote access. It sometimes says listening on 50… (some other numbers) when I uncheck and check enable remote access, however ultimately always fails and says I need to enable port forwarding manually.

@Tardheels You do not need to check the “enable remote access” box. All it does is try to setup the forwarding rule for you. If you have setup the rule manually, then that’s all that is needed.

Perfect, I’m just trying to live up to my handle…

I am also getting the “Error: Failed to map port… Enable port-forwarding for 8089 manually.” I did manually forward my ports and checked at yougetsignal.com and verified port is open. However, even though the error still shows, remote access works for me just fine. I am currently accessing from my work.

I’m still having trouble with this, I can see that the port is open using the mac network utility. What is the address I use to access the dvr page. When I log into the the DVR page from a different network the only link I see is drv.xxx.local.:8089. I’m currently trying this out using my iPhone as a hotspot.

Use the ip assigned to your router by your isp. You can see it using a site like ipchicken.com

tmm1, so you are saying the address to access the dvr page remotely is http://{ip address of router}:8089?

The public internet ip assigned to your house, yes.

with “:8089” after the ip address right?

Yes.

I have the same issue where I get the following error:

Error: Failed to discover router… Enable port-forwarding for 8089 manually.

I am not sure but perhaps the application assumes your router is located at 192.168.1.1 but mine is different.
