Running in background user

I'm not sure of the correct terminology here, but if I have a Mac with multiple users and I have one set up simply for running Channels DVR, will it carry on running if another user logs in without logging out of the Channels user?

I'm thinking of setting up a Mac for home use, that my wife or daughter could use with their own logins. I wouldn't want Channels to stop working though when another user is using the Mac.

Thanks for any advice. I guess I could test it myself if no one knows the answer.

Thanks, that’s really helpful. I’d seen mention of running as a service but didn’t know what this meant. Now I do.

Hi, just a thought, would it be able to access a network share when running as a service?

I assume not.

I have an old Mac mini running Plex and channels which saves the files on my NAS. That requires the Mac mini to have the network shares mounted, which I assume, in turn requires the shares to be mounted for the current active user? Is there a way around this?

It should work, but I am not certain.

I know that video hardware transcoding does not work in the background.
