Still having troubles recording or watching live TV

After going to the latest HDHomerun firmware last night, I can’t seem to record anything, or watch live TV. I can watch previously done recordings, on Safari on the Mac, on my iPhone in the beta Channels app, and on the Apple TV.

I can watch TV live using the HDHomerun app.

Here’s my log from when I tried to record something:

2017/09/15 23:52:22 [TNR] Opened connection to 10323CCF for ch6.2
2017/09/15 23:52:22 [HLS] Starting transcoder for channel 6.2 (encoder=h264_videotoolbox, resolution=720, deinterlacer=blend, bitrate=2000)
2017/09/15 23:52:23 [IDX] Pruned 1 expired airings from USA-OTA97007 in 32.641334ms.
2017/09/15 23:52:25 [DVR] Cancelling stream 10323CCF ch6.2 after 3s read timeout
pipe:: could not find codec parameters
2017/09/15 23:52:43 [HLS] Stopping transcoder session ANY-ch6.2 @ 0s
2017/09/15 23:52:43 [TNR] Closed connection to 10323CCF for ch6.2

I’ve tried restarting the two Duals I have and also the server, with no difference noted.

Is there some way I can reload the Channels software on my computer without losing all of my recordings?

As I noted in your other post (Remote access died today), there seems to be a network issue between your DVR and HDHR. Reinstalling the DVR software won’t help.

Please try the things I mentioned before:

  • see if the app can watch live tv if you disable “tuner sharing” on the Settings tab.

  • make sure the IP listed for your HDHR in the DVR is correct, and try the “scan network” button

In HDHR app, how long does it take for a channel to start playing? Longer than 3 seconds?

Odd that you mention the latest HDHomerun firmware. I’ve been having some issues with the latest HDHomerun firmware for my Connect. The Channels DVR will get 807 no video error from the tuner. The tuner in turn will show no signal on any of the channels requiring a reboot. Can you try rebooting your HDHomerun? I have an open trouble ticket with SiliconDust.

@jcrunch is using the older (legacy) HDHR DUAL, which uses a different streaming method than the newer models like the CONNECT.

For the older models, we have a 3 second timeout when waiting to receive video data from the tuner. (The newer models don’t need a timeout, since they are able to report errors like the “807 no video” you’re seeing). Maybe the HDHR DUAL’s tuning speed got slower with the latest firmware, causing the “3s read timeout” error on all recordings and streams.

Sorry to double post on this issue. I put it in a new post because it seemed to have gotten to be a more generalized problem, somehow.

I think I’ve found the problem, at least partially.

This all happened after I upgraded the firmware to the latest version. I have two Duals. When I turned one of them off and disconnected it, I was able to view live TV and record again using the other Dual. I had similar success when I reordered priority and put the functional Dual at the top of the list.

I’m thinking that either there’s a problem with the newest firmware and Duals, as tmm1 suggested, or I have a damaged installation of the firmware on that Dual.

I’ve read somewhere online that it’s possible to roll back firmware on these units. Does anyone know how to do that, and where to get the earlier firmware version?

Thanks again for the help.

Can you try a channel scan on the DUAL that’s not working and see if it finds anything?

Sorry for the slow response to this. Having a busy time right now.

How do I scan for channels? From the Settings interface? It shows 44 channels there for that Dual, but I can’t figure out how to rescan.

Last night I turned on only the Dual that I thought I was having problems with, and I am still able to view live TV from the HDHomerun software and the Channels web interface. So the problem doesn’t appear to be with either Dual, but rather with having them both on at the same time.

I have turned off Tuner Sharing in the IOS app when both Duals are on, and this doesn’t appear to solve the problem.

Scan for channels from the iOS or tvOS app

Will do when I get home from work.

Just wanted to report that I am once again able to watch and record video on all four tuners (both tuners on both Duals) at the same time.

I took tmm1’s advice and turned off tuner sharing in my Apple TV (as well as on my iPhone and iPad) and rescanned for channels on the tuner that I thought I was having problems with, and it apparently cleared things up.

It probably was the turning off of tuner sharing that did it, but I can’t say for sure.

Thanks for all the help.
