Sudden buffering on local network

I’m starting to get a lot of buffering on my local devices when watching TVE or OTA. Feeds will start to play a few seconds, then buffer. Could do that a couple of times and then be good for a while and then suddenly buffer again.

This could point to a network or disk bandwidth/IO issue at your DVR server.

If you have tuner sharing enabled on the clients, the above would apply here as well. If not, but both local and internet streams are having issues, then it sounds like there is some type of congestion or interference with your network. Errant RF signals can interfere with wireless networking; are your clients all wireless, wired, or mixed? If mixed, are all clients equally affected?

All wired. Plenty of bandwidth. Had not been an issue until a few days ago.

Anything relevant in the logs? Disk issues could still be an issue. Or some other process on your server hogging bandwidth. I've noticed sometimes a switch gets wonky, and the port renegotiates to 100Mbps ...

There are many MANY thing that could be the reason, but you haven't shared many details, so all you're going to get are guesses until there is a concrete direction.

That is why I’m asking if anyone else is seeing this. Before I tear my network apart or start rebuilding my server I want to see if it’s just me.

This may sounds facetious, but have you tried rebooting your server? I had a problem a couple of months ago exactly like this and it resolved everything. I agree with @racameron, you should tell us everything you have tried first so we are not guessing.

Server rebooted, router rebooted, all ATV rebooted. All on latest beta.

What hardware is your server on?

I had a similar issue on MacOS after going to Monterey. Turning off an IO hog process helped, but never got anything back from my diagnostics.

Switched to native HDHR app, not seeing any buffering on locals. Will need to test longer to be positive.

Runs on a 2011 MacBook Pro with High Sierra. It’s the only thing this Mac does. Dedicated server in my data closet. Uses a 500GB internal SSD for media. Ethernet direct to router.

Got it. One suggestion that significantly helped my issue at the time was to exclude the DVR base folder from spotlight search. I don't plan on using anything but the channels interfaces to search a library, and there was a substantial amount of IO being consumed needlessly on spotlight searching.

At least worth a try...

Forgot to say that OTA tuner not going thru DVR, tuner sharing is off.

Please submit diagnostics from the app after this happens and let us know when you have.

Well it looks like I had a bad network switch on my network. Was not even the switch the DVR was connected to, but once I removed it all buffering stopped. It must have been noisy and putting garbage on the line.
