Thinksmart Views: Another hack-able Lenovo device

Just got one of these for $31:

Similar-ish to this thing that @Fofer posted about a year ago.

I have 3 of those, all in regular use - one that I use with Channels almost daily.

Hacking the Thinksmart View requires a lot more steps and I’ve not started yet but it’s documented well in the thread above and in XDA. Already love the larger screen and that it can be used landscape or portrait.

Note: unlike the Smart Clock 2 which functions as a Google Home device , the Thinksmart View is pretty useless unless you hack it.

I have three Thinksmart Views, all bought to run as small Channels displays. The new unofficial LineageOS 15.1 (Android 8.1) ROM is rock solid on these, especially at the $28 (woot when in stock) to $40 (eBay/Amazon) price point. Channels app runs like a champ.

Lineage OS Instructions

Just a note, Woot App Exclusive has these ThinkSmart View for $27.99.

Just one?

I have three, they work really well. Happy to help with setup if you need.

Ordered 3 from Woot. Had one on order from Walmart for around $35 but that can go back.

Can anybody post what the unit looks like after installing lineageos and channels looks like?

I have two of these - and may try the LineageOS install on one soon. The first one is running …well, whatever was available in the XDA thread back in January and know there’s been improvements since then. The other one is still in the box.

Back in stock if you want to grab one.

Thanks! I was able to pick one up and have had it laying around and just got it up and running this evening! This is absolutely incredible for the price. Wild!

Man, now I am thinking I should have bought a second one as well.

They work really well. The only issue I've run into is Lineage drops WiFi sometimes and you have to reconnect. But for $28, they are great little kitchen, desk or nightstand TVs.

And don't worry, they will likely go on sale again.

I know that’s right!

I'm also really impressed by how good the speaker is. Punches well above its price.

On woot again today

Yet again in stock:

Did you ever find a fix for the wifi dropping with Lineage on the Thinksmart View?
