I’m running Channels on a QNAP TS-677 and it has been flawless for a year+. This past week when I go to skip commercials, it can take several minutes to recover if it recovers at all. Sometimes I just back out and restart the stream.
Anyone else seen this?
What device are you running Channels on?
I noticed a few random times skipping commercials that it is taking upwards of 5 seconds to skip. ATV4k on gigabit connection server on 2018 mac mini i5.
What streaming quality do you have set?
Server is a QNAP TS-677 NAS and client is a Nvidia Shield 2017.
Remote quality is set to 4Mbps 720p.

Can you submit diagnostics from the app after the slow seek occurs.
I stopped checking this thread because I gave up and switched back to Plex. It’s far from perfect but at this point it’s my only choice. I’ve uninstalled Channels from my NAS but did copy some of the last logs that were available.

This looks like it's a bug in the new transcoder. If you wanted to try Channels DVR again, you could probably fix the issue by checking the "Old Transcoder" checkbox in the Experimental Settings area.
I’m turning up a new DVR server in a couple of days. I do still have the recording if you want to check it out. My new server is Windows 10 based with a Nvidia GTX 1660 graphics card for hardware transcoding. I did see the checkbox you were referring to. I’ll try it both ways and see if there’s a difference. The reason I switched to Channels DVR in the first place was because Plex transcoder wasn’t processing FOX broadcasts properly. It was jumping frames and in both audio and video. Sometimes the audio would get out of sync with the video. It was a mess! My guess is you’re trying to implement the same transcoding engine they use?
I don’t know. But now I have two broken pieces of DVR software. I will turn up the new server with Channels and see how it goes.
I finally got my new server up and running tonight. I’ll let you know how it goes. I currently don’t have the box checked for the “Old Transcoder”. I do have a Nvidia 1650 GPU installed and have selected “Hardware” next to Transcoder.
I don’t see any indication if the server software is using hardware or software. Is it just assumed if I have the option for hardware it’s using hardware? At least up to the two stream limit of the Nvidia driver?

I'm pretty sure this is the issue you were running into before, and we put a fix in for it a few weeks ago.

I just started having issues with commercial skip and to a lesser extent starting recordings.
Running on WD PR4100 and ATV (not 4K). My network is mostly ethernet over coax and everything else runs fine including streaming apps on the same ATV. It takes 5 to 10 seconds to start a recording (or to tune into a live channel). But com skip takes almost as long as the actual commercials. This just started in the last few days. Before that there was a very brief pause when starting recordings or using com skip.
I’ve restarted the router, ATV, WD PR4100, any switches and MOCA devices. I’m running the latest software.

You can also try switching the ATV4 to Wi-Fi temporarily since that model only has a 100mbps Ethernet port.
So the new transcoder is still a no go. Tonight I was able to take a short nap after skipping commercials. I’ve also seen some I frame issues in the conversions.
I’m now back to the legacy transcoder and so far it’s perfect. I’ll keep you posted.
Would you be able to email us a link to the .mpg for the recording that you are having these issues with? On the DVR website could you look at View Details for the recording and see if Streaming Index Up-to-date says Yes?
To confirm: you're streaming remotely with software encoding and 4mbps?
I would like to try to replicate this issue to figure out what is causing this. The old and new transcoders are both using the same settings with ffmpeg which makes it very confusing as to what is happening.
The Streaming Index Up-to-date says Yes. I will try to see if I can arrange a hosting site so you can analyze the file.
The legacy transcoder just got mixed up by an I frame too so that is consistent between the two.
Now the only unique issue to the new transcoder is the recovery from a commercial skip.
