Video Player Decoder - Hardware of Software

I am setting up my Fire TV stick (was using Apple TV). I see there is an option for Video Player Decoder either Hardware of Software. Is that within the Fire TV stick itself or from my computer? And which one to chose?

I don't see this setting on the Apple TV for some reason.

That's a setting for the video decoder inside the Fire Stick 4K. Leave it on Hardware.

I have issues if it’s on software or hardware. One crashes the app and one the colours go unwatchable dark As well as juddering when playing back recordings.
