VideoReDo going out of business?

Plus VRD extracts programs from (unprotected) DVDs so easily. Adjust audio ("lip") sync. Quickstreamfix has repaired otherwise unuseable captures. So I hope someone can pick up this code or create something comparable (if not better) that is affordable (not subscription) and at least as functional, in particular not recoding anything that doesn't have to be.

For me, on a Mac, the free lossless-cut is still handling the job nicely. There are Windows and Linux versions too.

Thanks. Have you ever used VRD?

When I can no longer use VRD I'll probably check that out.
Last time I looked into it there were issues viewing/playing some formats/codecs and issues with cutting between I/IDR frames and also not cutting where you mark to cut.

I rely on both the video thumbnails and audio waveform display in VRD when I make my cuts and sometimes do audio volume and sync adjustments. When I double click the .Vprj file created by comskip, it opens the video with scene and cut markers visible in the VRD display.
Do you know if lossless cut can do these?

No, there wasn't a Mac version. I'm not sure if lossless-cut covers your needs. I've just used it to chop out commercials, it's been quick and easy. No thumbnails AFAIK. But it's free, so easy to check it out and see for yourself

It's too bad no one captured a network trace before the activation servers went down. It will be tricky to replicate even if the domain can be recovered.

I've used Video Redo for many years and really liked it. But since it's going away, I've been doing some testing of Lossless Cut on a Windows PC. It seems to work very well and the things I like are it's fast, preserves multiple audio tracks and it preserves subtitles. Video Redo did not offer those features. However, Video Redo did offer the ability to upscale you videos and change them to different formats/codecs. I look forward to testing Lossless Cut some more to see what else it will do.

I do too!

It will be a big loss when it stops working.

I have used Avidemux too for "quick and dirty" edits as long as key frames are present in the right places to make clean cuts.

@chDVRuser I have this VideoReDo installation package: VRDTVS-6-60-4-806a.exe along with my upgrade token from V5 to V6, and my V5 registration key. Do you know if it's still possible to do a fresh installation on a new laptop? And, if so, what the process might be?

Not sure. You should ask at the reddit site. Similar post there https://www.reddit.com/r/videoredo/comments/10uh943/cant_activate_my_upgrade/
I did my upgrade from v5 to v6 four years ago.
At that time you entered the upgrade token in the upgrade wizard which would give you a v6 license key.
If you never did that to get the v6 license key, I have no idea.

Does anyone know how to see the latest posts to the reddit community https://www.reddit.com/r/videoredo
I really hate the interface there.

In this forum you can just choose Latest.

On Reddit, you'd click the "new" tab:

https://www.reddit.com/r/videoredo/new/

Thanks, I noticed that.
But it just lists the subreddits in order, not all the individual posts like this forum does.
Better than nothing, I guess.

Hmm, when I click that link I see all the most recent threads in that one subreddit. It's just not very active.

Maybe the terminology I'm using.
I thought https://www.reddit.com/r/videoredo was considered a reddit community
and the individual threads (topics) inside were called subreddits.

Anyway, I was trying to see if I could list all of the posts within that community in descending (newest first) order, like you see at https://community.getchannels.com/latest, no matter which category(section) or topic(thread) they're in, but guess not.

No, a subreddit (like r/videoredo) is also called a Reddit community. Each of the discussions you see on that landing pages are distinct threads. There are no categories, or sections, in that subreddit. It's just one flat list of threads.

I agree Reddit's interface is awful. It's much easier for me to navigate via newest submissions : videoredo

And if you want to use that "old" interface as your default view moving forward then go to https://www.reddit.com/prefs
...and choose " Opt out of the redesign" (Revert back to old Reddit for the time being)

This is looking promising as a replacement for VRD.

Of course, the UI is different, but it does cut VFR (Variable Frame Rate) HEVC w/Subtitles, which VRD can't do. And supposedly works with 10-bit HEVC (which I haven't tried yet) https://old.reddit.com/r/videoredo/comments/1f71j0s/im_trying_to_build_a_modern_version_of_videoredo/ll6rj6d/

Would you happen to know, does it only cut at I-frames or can it do frame-accurate cuts by "smart" re-coding at the cut-point -- like VRD did.

Cut at any type frame and it "smart" re-encodes the GOPs that your cut starts and ends in, like VRD does.
