VideoReDo going out of business?

FWIW - Videoredo.com is coming up for me today.

The page is up for me too. However, with the latest version of Videoredo TV Suite 6 I get registration error every time I try to open a video file. Main videoredo screen shows me correctly registered, but I get a registration error whenever I try to open a file. I wish it could operate without needing to contact their server.

More bad news. And a glimmer of hope. Dan the founder of VideoReDo has passed away. But another Dan is hoping to keep the support going. The devil is in the details. https://www.tivocommunity.com/threads/rip-dan-rosen-founder-of-videoredo.589454/

Ouch, but glad he found employment

Glad for him, but sad about VRD. I wonder if it will survive a change of hands.

I have started using Avidemux to see if it will serve my needs. I thinks it's pretty good as long as the commercials land on the proper I-frames. It rarely doesn't, so that is good.

Anyway, I wish him the best.

so as this software fades away, (or just stops working one day) - what might be out there that best approximated it's abilities.
I record via channels DVR, and have used Videoredo as the editor to clean out commercials and save via M2TS -

I've used Lossless Cut without too much issue. Works on Windows, Mac and Linux.

SAD, after seeing their cross-platform plan for v7

VideoReDo is done. v6 is the last version. I will follow through with my promise and set up a activation server if these servers ever go down, but beyond that it's over. Sorry.

It has happened here. Dan did not take any precautions to loop me into the business so his passing is the end of VideoReDo. It's possible (although unlikely) that his wife could sell the company to someone who keeps it going, but I won't be involved. I have a new job and I've moved on.

Sounds like the activation servers are going down soon.

Well...thats unfortunate but this is why I don't use such a closed source software.

I use Fileflows to post process recordings with the edl files Channels produced.

I'd recommend people switch over to that (or use comchap/comcut). MCEBuddy also isn't a bad alternative but even they could decide to end it down the line

MCEBUDDY has the best commercial detection they do 2 Passes on the file.

I haven't found anything to replace VRD yet. It still works.
It does frame accurate cuts and can just recode around the cut points.
It keeps audio/video in sync and doesn't introduce any glitches around the cut points.
Using comskip in CDVR, the ad markers are never 100% accurate.
I just use them to ballpark where the breaks are and fine tune (to the frame) in VRD.

I'm in the same boat, I'll continue to use VRD until I can't anymore. The alternatives I've tried have not been as quick and easy as VRD. I'll keep Fileflows in mind, I haven't tried that one yet.

Plus VRD extracts programs from (unprotected) DVDs so easily. Adjust audio ("lip") sync. Quickstreamfix has repaired otherwise unuseable captures. So I hope someone can pick up this code or create something comparable (if not better) that is affordable (not subscription) and at least as functional, in particular not recoding anything that doesn't have to be.

For me, on a Mac, the free lossless-cut is still handling the job nicely. There are Windows and Linux versions too.

Thanks. Have you ever used VRD?

When I can no longer use VRD I'll probably check that out.
Last time I looked into it there were issues viewing/playing some formats/codecs and issues with cutting between I/IDR frames and also not cutting where you mark to cut.

I rely on both the video thumbnails and audio waveform display in VRD when I make my cuts and sometimes do audio volume and sync adjustments. When I double click the .Vprj file created by comskip, it opens the video with scene and cut markers visible in the VRD display.
Do you know if lossless cut can do these?
