What is Tuner Sharing?

Overview

• Tuner Sharing makes connections to your HDHomeRun go through the DVR server
• Multiple clients watching the same channel can share a single tuner slot on your HDHomeRun

Tuner Sharing only affects local HDHomeRun streams. Streaming away-from-home, or from DVR-powered sources (such as TV Everywhere or Custom Channels) will always stream through your DVR and use the tuner sharing buffer

Enabling Tuner Sharing

Tuner sharing is disabled by default, so each client device connects directly to your HDHomeRun. Enable sharing under Settings > Playback > Advanced > Tuner Sharing

If your DVR server is connected via WiFi instead of Ethernet, it may be beneficial to leave Tuner Sharing off.

Server-side control

To force all your clients to automatically use Tuner Sharing, use the DVR's Server Side Settings feature.

On the Clients tab, under Client Settings, add entries for:

• Playback > Advanced > Tuner Sharing
• Server Side Only > Inherit Source Priority
