What’s the Difference Between the IOS Apps?

There are multiple versions (for wildly varying prices) in the App Store.
Channel: Whole Home DVR

‎Channels: Whole Home DVR

AND
Channels for HD HomeRun!

‎Channels for HDHomeRun!

I have an HD HomeRun on my network and I’m using the Whole Home DVR version on both my iPad and an AppleTV, and they work ok. Will the for HD HomeRun version work better or more consistently? Also, why is the AppleTV version $30 more?

The free Channels DVR app requires the DVR server & subscription, which it sounds like you have. The Channels for HDHomerun app functions as a standalone viewer for a HDHomerun tuner, no server or subscription required (though it will function with the server if you have one).

Difference between iOS apps

The paid Apple TV app is for using with just an HDHomeRun tuner. There’s no subscription needed. You just pay once. It’s just for live tv with your HDHomeRun. The iOS version of this app is just free. We don’t charge for it.

Also, why is the AppleTV version $30 more?

I'm using the free ‎Channels: Whole Home DVR app on my AppleTV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac and have never paid for the "standalone"app. Like you, I do subscribe to Channels DVR annually.

The $40 app would be for people who want to use the Channels client app with their HDHomeRun tuners but who don't subscribe to the Channels DVR server. It's for live TV, and the vastly better interface this app provides over the other...
