Why do I have to constantly log into remote server?

I am very frustrated that after a few hours, I have to constantly log in to the server. And when I do I get the attached screen shot error.

So I access my home computer via Team Viewer and log in. And after about 5-10 minutes, I can use Channels remotely.

Do I have to stop my computer from locking?

I am forwarding 8089 port.

How is it running? Is the computer sleeping? Is it running as a service, or as a user program? Which user is it running under? What's the OS?

Please provide some more details, as well as how you have installed the server.

The server is on my iMac. I do not have it go to sleep but have it lock (not log out) after an hour. Even after I log in (remotely), it is still having problems connecting. I had the same problem today and about 10 minutes later, it connected.

Okay, so here is what I finds work. I have to remotely log into my Mac. I turn off Remote DVR and then turn it back on and it works. This is rather annoying.

How do you have your port forwards set up? Firewall rules? Any on the server, or all on the router, or both?

I have it all set up correctly, right?

It looks to be all right. But what about the Mac?

What specifically would you like to know about my Mac?

Are there any firewall rules on that device. Since you say that you have to remotely log in to that machine to reset the DVR, it seems that the problem is with settings on your Mac then.

No special rules that I’m aware of. I am away from my home where my Mac is so in order to access my Mac, I have to remote in to try to fix this problem.

Again, the issue seems to be resolved if I turn off remote DVR and then turn it back on. I shouldn’t have to do this.

The only thing that comes to mind is that your Mac's IP is changing, so the rule first created via UPnP is no longer accurate.

You may want to set up a static IP/DHCP reservation for Mac on your home network, and then set up a manual port forward for port 8089.

(UPnP and NAT-PMP have always caused three times the problems they ever tried to solve, so those protocols are disabled or not even installed on the routers I set up; you will probably find your network works better without then, too.)

I definitely found what makes this work, but only temporarily. I was watching my DVR and live channels this morning away from my home without any issue. This just now (about an hour later), I don't see any channel sources or any DVR.

So, I remote into my Mac using Teamviewer and turn off Remote DVR and during it back on. And less than 10 seconds later, everything works again on my remote Apple TV.

So, @tmm1, what could be causing this issue? Do I need to set something on my Mac differently? As you can see above, I have the port being forwarded correctly? And, again, I did nothing but flip the Remote DVR off and on to get it to work.

Thanks.

Please submit diagnostics from the app when it fails to connect. When that happens, are you able to connect via my.channelsdvr.net in a browser?

Submit diagnostics from the Apple TV Channels app?

And, no, I cannot connect via my.channelsdvr.net.

Tony

Can you connect via teamviewer and then try my.channelsdvr.net again before you toggle remote access off/on

Okay, will try. I just sent a diagnostic report via Apple tv Channels app. (No connection again!)

I'll come back to you about TV/ my.channelsdvr.net.

I remoted into my Mac using TV. No issues. In fact, my screen at home was not locked (just an FYI in case the computer screen locking was an issue but definitely is not).

I tried to access my.channelsdvr.net on my computer outside my home. The browser times out (see below screen shot).

So, I just toggled off/on Remote DVR on my home computer (remotely using TV), and about 10 seconds later, Channels app on my Apple TV outside my home is working normally.

Okay that indicates an issue with your port forwarding setup.

Earlier you posted a screenshot of your router where a forward rule was added manually? If that's the case then the DVR itself should be set to Manual mode. Or if you're leaving the DVR in Automatic mode, then the manual rule from the router must be removed. It seems they're conflicting somehow.

Ah, okay, Let me delete the port forwarding on the router and allow Channels server to forward automatically. I'll let you know.
