Will NBC, MSNBC, etc. work with HDHomeRun Prime Cable box?

I've installed Channels DVR on a Mac Mini, logged into my Verizon FiOS account, and everything seems to be working fine - except, of course for not being able to get NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, etc. I currently have a cable card that I'm renting from Verizon for a TiVo. So just to confirm, if I purchase a HDHomeRun Prime Cable HDTV box and use my Verizon cable card, will I then be able to get the NBC channels working on Channels DVR?

Many thanks!

Mine work but I am on XFINITY.

Yes, it should work.
Assuming Verizon can pair your cable card with the Prime tuner if it's needed.
I've seen posts that the Verizon CC doesn't need to be paired and posts saying it does.
The question is best asked in the Silicon Dust Support forum HDHomeRun Hardware Setup & Troubleshooting - Silicondust

Also look at these two posts regarding Fox Networks DRM CableCARD Activation Hotlines/Websites - Page 4 - Silicondust (even mentions Channels DVR TVE)

Thank you so much for the quick and detailed reply. I hadn't noticed that hardware forum - I'll check it out. And also those two posts... Thanks!

Yep, it'll work great. The network of NBC channels were only affected for TV Everywhere, that's it. OTA, and Cable Cards work fine with them, as they do with all the channels from those sources.

I personally have FIOS and it's a perfect provider for Channels. They do have FOX cable channels (Fox News, FS1, FX, Natgeo, etc) DRM'd, but not the local FOX affiliate. But you can get those via TV Everywhere.

FWIW...I have fios/now frontier and have my coax cable directly plugged into the HDHome run with no cable card and get the majority of the channels that way (NBC,etc.)...has been working fine for years.

Thanks!

Awesome, thank you!

Oh! Good to know. Thank you!

I have a quick follow-up question before I order a HDHomeRun PRIME Cable HDTV... What resolution does it support? 1080p? 4k? I can't find these specs anywhere on their website...

Thanks!

In my area XFINITY converted everything to H264 1280x720P.... but the Prime Supports 4K.

But Cable Card is slowing going away.

Whatever it is fed from your provider. If you have 4K channels, Channels will display/record them in 4K.

@nestlerode ,

All in all I am Glad I did not give up my Primes and Cable Cards to go with Streaming services. As all they seem to be doing is Jack up prices and cutting Channels.

mine works on xfinity.. Well.. ONE of my two do, but I can't get anyone at xfinity who knows how to actually activate a cable card now, so I have a second one which just gets one test channel of colorbars! SO close to giving up xfinity completely and going 100% streaming..

I had success contacting Chat customer support and asking them to activate my cable card. Depending on how your account is setup, following the self-activation link from Pair or Activate Your CableCARD – Self-Installation Setup - Xfinity Support may also work.

Curious what you mean about "depending on how your account is setup?" That article points me to go to https://cablecardactivation.xsp.comcast.net/ which resolves to 10.54.141.243 for me, which is an internal only, private IP space, and doesn't work. I thought maybe it was possible they exposed some of their internal network space to their own customer networks, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Does that URL actually resolve for you? If so, what IP do you get?

It did not work for me because I only have xfinity TV and not xfinity internet. I used chat support.

Yes if you have fios the 4K channels work with the HDHR prime

Thanks, yeah... I tried on xfinity internet and it didn't work.. I also tried from my Starlink internet, and from my AT&T phone and none of them did any better.. I figured that the article didn't say you had to be on xfinity internet to use their web page, so even if they were exposing a 10.x network on their internal customer's networks, they should expose it on a public IP on any other ISP, but they dont. I see all kinds of people on forums saying the same thing, but they dont seem to understand that their "self service" activation webpage isn't accessible by customers. SO frustrating. I already spent a total of 6 hours on the phone with them, and the last contact was them saying they'd call me back, and they never did. I haven't built up the patience yet to try again..

That could be because they might not be supporting Cable Cards anymore ... I got an email that had the Serial numbers on my Cable Cards that I might need to replace them with X1 devices. So far, they are still working.
