Huh that's a strange one. Can you double click or right click on the dvr partition to make it mount?
Is my "invisible" exFat partition on Windows the same issue that was reported back on Oct. 16 and 17? Is this something the install itself can fix rather than using Gparted post install?
No. If it shows up in the Partition Manager (like in your screenshot) then it is not invisible. It's not being mounted for some reason which is not apparent. Can you try on a different machine maybe?
Where is the data you are trying to migrate? Is it a directory on the C: drive or is there another drive in play?
I didn't try a different machine, but I did follow your suggestion to right mouse and then was presented an option to "Change Drive Letter" and I choose "P:" and that seemed to work and make the new Linux formatted exFat partition visible to Windows File Explorer, so now I can copy / migrate files from my Windows PC to this USB drive (mapped as P:) and then back to the RPi4 to Restore.
Here are the current contents of P: before copying any old DVR data over.
Running Channels on a 2019 Shield Pro, but I have a Hauppauge tuner, which is unsupported. So... 2 options in my head. Buy an HDHomerun and continue using the Shield for Channels and that's the setup, easy and done. Or... get an rPi4, run Raspbian or Ubuntu, install Channels, and Tvheadend or NextPVR to continue using the Hauppauge tuner.
Any thoughts?
I installed everything and the server is working. BUT, the green like is still blinking and I cannot connect to http://dvr-server.local:8089. I looked through the thread and found I could upgrade but I don't think my pi is connected to wifi. Or is it? I could not connect to the amazonaws link. I can't ifconfig or ipconfig or any normal commands to see the ip address...not sure what to do. But it works, so maybe I should do nothing! He he!
If you're connecting from Windows, then try http://dvr-server:8089 without the .local
Or you may need to use the IP.
If everything is working I don't think you need to worry. May be a bug with the LED itself? If you click Support > Submit Diagnostics at the top right of the web UI I can check the logs.
The command to check network config is ip addr.
Thank you for the lightning fast reply!!! I dove in deep and found that my son had turned on the computer I was using for the server, so it looked like my raspberry pi was working, when it was actually the other computer. So I checked and my pi is not connected to wifi. So I am trying to update the wpa supplicant file, but I don't know the commands. Can you instruct me on how to get onto the wlan? Thanks again and happy holidays!
Have you already SSHd in?
The commands to setup Wi-Fi are on https://core.docs.ubuntu.com/en/stacks/network/network-manager/docs/configure-wifi-connections
Since Channels is using a HassOS derivative, I believe you could also use the Wifi Configuration section from here (I think that's what I used when testing the boot image)
I have been running the dedicated RPi4 image for about 24 hours now and it just froze up while my family was watching a channel via TVE. I tried to access the server via the local wired network and the admin page would not come up and the Pi's network light was flashing constantly.
I had to turn the Pi off and back on and now it is working again.
Any ideas why the server got into some kind of loop or freeze state? I am running OS version 2020.1210.2157 and server version 2020.12.23.0058
Edit: I went into the restarted DVR Server and submitted Diagnostics.
Now that itβs back up can you access the web UI and see what the logs say at the time of the freeze? Submitting diagnostics from there would also be a good idea.
I looked at the logs and I think it froze about 7:30 CT and shortly after I had been deleting some recently recorded programs. Perhaps Commercial Detection had not completed when I was deleting the programs and I wonder if that caused some kind of issue?
Edit: Also I went into the restarted DVR Server and submitted Diagnostics.
I had never used a rpi before, but followed the instructions you provided exactly. It booted the first time and works great. I have the 4gb model. Great work. Lots of testing to come. Thanks and Merry Christmas and/or happy holidays.
I just installed the PI image and wanted to pull in a fan control for the Argon case. The fan control script uses "apt-get" which does not appear to be part of the base image. Any suggestions on how to get the software to control the fan installed?
For now, I have the fan set to run all the time, which is not a bad solution, but having it come on/off based on heat seems a better solution.
There is a open source deamon - https://gitlab.com/DarkElvenAngel/argononed - given the stripped down PI server, that does not seem to be a solution.
Any suggestions?
@AtoZ0to9 - I can't speak for the hauppauge tuner but I have run the HDHomerun for years and it is an awesome little device. I highly recommend and it's super simple and very hands off (check it every so often for firmware updates but that's it). Also, I just transitioned to the RPi4 using the custom image and it is amazing so that's what I would recommend.
On that note, however, I do have a question about expected behavior on adding a second USB3 drive. Should adding another enclosure cause the image to panic? I am wondering if this could be a voltage issue since I'm not using externally powered enclosures (I'm using the Amazon Basics usb3 enclosure). As smoothly as everything else has gone, I have to believe that it's something silly that I am not doing that I should be. Thoughts? Perhaps I should cause the problem and then submit the support logs?
Also wanted to just give some very positive feedback on the custom pi image. It is truly amazing and has totally changed our outlook on OTA dvr solutions. Thank you for this work!
I currently have the CanaKit 3.5A power supply. I should've specified.
Is it possible to boot from a small SSD (16gb) and store all the recordings on a 3tb hard drive, or is it even necessary?
Also does anyone know do I need a second Channels subscription to run a second DVR (I have one for myself, and want to manage one for my parents) The are on the same network/location. Too bad there isn't profile support.
