Your favorites must be stored on the client, so perhaps you should try export to source, and after updating, import from source.
Oh yeah I'm very familiar with saving and importing/exporting favorites. I was talking about the actual sort/order in the On Now section. Let's say I have NBC, CBS, ABC, and Fox as my first 4 you see. When installing fresh, it always jumbles the order. And with lots of channels it's a pain to reorder every time on every tv. Sounds like there's no way around it.
All I can think of is if you are able to browse to your /data/app folder on your device, theoretically you could just keep replacing the base.apk and whatever else pertains. It would be a headache trying that way. I don't know where those preferences get stored at, but it's not on the server, it's local to the device the app is installed on. Solutions in my head for stuff usually involve root, and that's a whole different thing.
Sounds like a good feature request @tmm1 the ability to backup / restore that 
since it would be useful in plenty of situations, not just this one.
Found an issue with the cursor text being white in the guide, it'll be black again next version.
the older version i posted the apk to does have transparent back ground for the quick guide and progress bar. do you recall what you tweaked to make that initially? or are you meaning that you are trying to make it fully transparent.
As transparent as possible, it's always been a dark transparent. I'm playing around with android studio. Its incredibly difficult to use on a pos.

I check occasionally for new files... could you add the upload date where you mention Google Drive? Sometimes I can't recall the version I have, knowing the date you upped it would answer whether I have it already or not.

Well I don't like old versions hanging around, those links at the bottom of the post, not the actual post, I don't like those there. The OP will always have only one download link and it will be the lastest I have done. I'll start putting an upload date too, and thanks for using the theme!
Just got an Android TV and installed this. Awesome. I did notice that all my settings got wiped after deleting the beta and installing this. Will that happen every time I update, or does the adb install command just update it with the newer version? I'm new to Android.
Unfortunately the way it's been is you'll have to uninstall the old version to install the new version, losing favorites and preferences, and I don't know how to backup those preferences before uninstall. The way the official beta works is it doesn't get uninstalled, just overwritten. I will try to implement something like that in the future or come up with a different way.
@tmm1 is it possible to have a way to backup app settings like this? It's not just helpful to install my theme.
EDIT - I think I just thought of a way but I have to try first. Anyone familiar with titanium backup? I haven't tried it on a shield but it may work to back up user data. I'll look into this when I am able to.

Titanium Backup only worked when rooted when I used it extensively back in the crappy Android ROM era. It's been some years, perhaps it had other features that didn't affect me in my "Trying Every ROM There Was" phase 7 or 8 years ago.
Now I have to go test it. Minor OCD can be a horrible time killer!

Right, most features will need root, and I just tried it on my phone disabling root. It needs root. And same for swift backup, I denied it root, and it could restore the app but not the data without root...
Next on the list to try would be to install a terminal emulator, and try to get to the path /data/app/xxxx
Xxxx being the channels app path to try and get all the files. It always seems to be different with every installation though so that may not work either.
I'm just thinking.
So...the current version [102.19.2353.apk ] the quick guide and seek bar ui is still purple and semi transparent. (testing it out on my CCGTV)
The version I have been using with on my Shield, 102.7.6 has a nice transparent light grey, nearly clear background for those elements.
Is this a regression in recent versions...or still a work in progress/still working on that since your dump of the old things and new start?

You are referring to the mini guide and seek bar while playing a channel? I'm trying to get that like in @tobycth3 metro theme. I've even gone so far as to decompile his apk and build around, but eventually the clear guide breaks and I just need to sit down and play with it more. I really wish others could help out.
I believe you linked the 102.7.6 earlier in the thread, I can look into these, but I'm out of town, I can only test on my phone and that's a tv specific thing, so if I make any changes, care to test it @speedingcheetah ?
