DVR server on windows

Help me understand, is there not a way for the DVR to scan the directory and add files found? Windows Media Center worked that way. You could add recordings from another setup or a previous install.

The firewall issue has been resolved, so barring other huge bugs we should not need to wipe/reinstall next week.

If you’ve been running on a linux VM or other setup and really want to move all your existing recordings and data over to the windows installation, follow these steps:

shut down the DVR

right click on the system tray icon and click Exit

open c:\ProgramData\ChannelsDVR\data in windows explorer
delete the recorder.db and settings.db files
copy the recorder.db and settings.db files from your old installation into this directory
start the DVR from the start menu by searching for “Channels DVR”

Another way to do the same thing is:

move your recordings folder to the new windows machine (attach existing usb drive, etc)
make sure DVR is disabled on the new install
go to http://127.0.0.1:8089/restore on the windows machine
find and pick the Database directory from your old recordings folder
restore a recent backup
go back to Settings and enable DVR

How’s the windows build working out for everyone so far? Any bugs to report?

I don’t have a windows machine at home (been using VMs to develop), so I just ordered this mini PC. So far so good. I did have a few comskip.exe abends with a dialog box before the last update.

I have noticed on the prior DVR build that my recordings on the Apple TV showed an incorrect show duration. It’s fixed with the new DVR build.

That seems like quite a deal, considering that a Windows 10 license alone is around $90 at retail!

DVR stopped a few minutes ago when I was accessing the browser interface.

It actually stops when I remote in with TeamViewer.

The web GUI streaming is not working for me in the current Windows build. It worked great yesterday when I first installed.

It turns out I get good quality streaming on my iPhone when connected to wifi ( around x 2.2) even going through the public IP address however when using cellular internet the video never loads. The dialog states starting transcoder and then shows about x 1.3 and eventually a still image loads but video never starts.

Sorry If I am missing something simple here, but I am not seeing the DVR in my Channels app. Running 2017.01.28.0312 on Windows 10 machine. I have check and unchecked the Bonjour button which lists “Advertising dvr-aptmowe.local. via [192.168.56.1, 192.168.1.17]” underneath it. I have also restarted the Channels app and my ATV. Looking for suggestions, thanks!

So far I haven’t had any problems. I’ve done a few simultaneous recordings that I haven’t had a chance to watch, but will in the morning. I haven’t been able to get the web GUI from another computer, but it might be a firewall problem? Overall install went smoothly and everything appears to be working well.

@brgator What cell provider do you use?

Reason for asking is that some providers (T-Mobile with “binge-on*” options) and others (tmobile is not the only one doing so… its just the most public about it) may be doing some shenanigans (traffic shaping) with the video streams

If you have tmobile… try the info from http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/t-mobile-binge-on-short-codes/ to temporarily disable binge-on to see if that was the issue.

Supposed to allow access to certain video providers without affecting your quota, but reduces the quality to SD streams… Current plans automatically have binge-on for unlimited plans (and its “extra” to turn it off by default). Some have noticed that it may affect ALL video unless you pay for the extra “HD” or are on a grandfathered unlimited plan.

Note also that the web transcoder uses a fixed 4mbps rate, which might be more than you can stream over cellular. I will expose some options to allow tuning bitrate.

I noticed that the Comskip portion has crashed. Yesterday I had recorded four random shows to see how well this Windows 10 computer will handle it. When I came back from being out for the day and made it to the computer I noticed a notification on my screen that Comskip had failed and shut down. I probably could have unchecked and re-checked the option but I did a computer restart. No problems getting the program running again, but it did not start automatically and it did take about 5 minutes before I could click the DVR on and get it running again. Here is the log portions where the recordings occured and Comskip had crashed plus the restart. I also see where every hour it remaps the port. Is that normal? Finally the remote access, do I have to open a port in my router to get the remote access. The address for listenting is not on my LAN but looks like my ip and a port. Thanks for the work you are doing!
