Experimental: Local Networks (NBC, ABC, FOX) in some major metros via TVE

Originally when Fox was added, it was just the Fox Owned and Operated stations available.
See first post

Users asked if they could get their local Fox stations added, even though they only provide Primetime programming. The devs responded by updating Channels DVR to provide access to Fox for anyone that could authenticate at their website for a local station.

Hopefully we can get LocalBTV added at some point

You may be able to find a source for your local news, if that's all that you're interested it. I added Plex Live TV as a source and found a station that plays my local Fox news broadcast on a loop.

Instructions for adding Custom Channels can be found here: Master-list Free Working M3U (Custom Channels) - Playground / Custom Channels - Channels Community (getchannels.com)

Hi there.

Noob question.

I know this is experimental and the first post gave information of supported stations or "check the live stream to test" recommendations.

Before paying for a steaming service to see if experimental local network works, is there anyway to know that the "major metros" that local network successful in? (It worked in San Francisco Bay area but now I'm in Las Vegas, NV ... if that helps.)

Thank you in advance.

Unless someone is in the same area and has the same service you will not know until you try it. If you can get a free trial that is probably the best route to find out.

Las Vegas has KTNV (ABC Affiliate), KVVU (CBS affiliate), and the FOXP station.
KSNVDT (NBC) Once worked but with the updates to NBC, it is no longer working

Will CHANNELS add Puffer as a cable provider on TVE so we will be able to watch the channels they offer live and free through the Stanford University project?

Puffer is only limited to 500 streams at a time. If I recall with what the Antenna Man Tyler said about that.

How is that a reason not to add the login to the TVE?

Puffer is not a cable provider and it doesn't support TVE login.

It would make more sense to add a Custom Channel, but that's not possible because Puffer uses a new experimental streaming protocol instead of any standard that Custom Channels supports.

UPDATE;

I've lost access to WTVC in the Nashville DMA. WKRN in Nashville doesn't offer a TVE stream. But up until a few days ago I could get WTVC from Chattanooga. Now I get an error that it's not in my subscription. If I recall correctly the mods had to manually add this channel to my subscription line-up years back. I'm not sure if the URL has changed. I can still get WTVC on abc.go.com with my Spectrum subscription login. Wondered if someone could help? Thanks

Did you try ticking and unticking the "Local Channels TVE" box...or rescanning?

Just tried that. I got, it added WDEF, Chattanooga CBS. But still no WTVC, Chattanooga ABC. It says "notAuthorized: Access to this program is not included in your Spectrum TV subscription. To learn more about adding this program, visit https://www.spectrum.net or call (855) 757-7328."

Did you update to the latest prerelease?

Make sure you did all of this

I lost WKRN-ABC yesterday and sent the log to support. I can sign into the live stream on ABC.com with my DTVS credentials. I upgraded to the prerelease and did several rescans. All that did was drop the local FOX channel. I did not try to toggle local networks off and on. I'll try that when the FOX channel should be active tonight.

Newbie here. I just installed Channels DVR today. I added my Hulu Plus Live TV and got the cable-type channels. I wound up downloading the latest pre-release to see if it helped with something unrelated, and found the checkbox to support TVE, then did a rescan. I did pick up ABC from Denver and CBS from Cheyenne (go figure, but OK) and Fox of some flavor. A second rescan made Fox go away. I think I see some recipes to fix Fox. If I can get my HDHRs working as I want, Hulu Live can probably go.

Questions:
Is anyone getting NBC these days?
I'd like MSNOW (was MSNBC) - is that related to the above? I guess they are spun off now. I don't see it in the Channels DVR list I checked (the TV Everywhere Availability page).

Thanks,
Rob T

Its been a while but NBC and Versent channels are DRM'd so you won't get that using TVE. You'll have to use a HDHR (for NBC at least any will work but for MS NOW you'll need a prime) or use a HDMI encoder with ah4c or adbtuner or use CC4C

Oh, so an HDHR Prime with cable and a cablecard? Understood, but nah.

An HDMI encoder plus adbtuner, now that could be interesting. I will probably drop Hulu Live and go to Sling TV once I get OTA going as I want.

What's CC4C here?

Thanks,
Rob T
