Seems the minute I mentioned Antivirus that was it. Couldn’t possibly be a bug with channels oh no. But then how would anyone know that or not since the developers can’t be bothered to answer their emails.
Cause it is the #1 cause of the errors reported in your logs you posted.
Next step, remove it, then, continue troubleshooting.
You also can hit a lockout period by the TVE provider, if you try to re-add/ re-scan tve channels too much in a short period of time. I had that happen alot with Xfinity, 48hrs lockout.
No I tried some different dns servers and that didn’t work. I opened tunnels in my router specifically for channels too. It’s odd I admit. Not mentioning it seems to only happen every so often and it’s only the TVE stuff. I apologize if you i offended you but I’m also frustrated. I have sent emails and logs and logs to support zero response.
Reading through this thread is hilarious .. going nowhere fast.
I will definitely do that when I get back. I will report back once completed.
I understand being frustrated, and not getting response back from your emails.
But, Channels Devs are just a couple of people, who have their own lives and family. It is also Vacation season.
I do not mean to come across as rude or contrite, but, it is also frustrating when a user will not follow the advice or steps given when trying to first, understand their issue better, and help resolve it.
As you know now, support for Channels is best done here, via their Community Forms.
There are hundreds of users here, who have been using Channels DVR server with TVE since it was first released, and have had bene through nearly every issues imaginable. Some users have little to no issues, others have frequent issues. Each users setup is unique.
Believe me nothing would please me more than not having to come here again. Hopefully it will stay up. My gut feeling is it has something to do with either Channels or Windows update. And maybe it takes a few hours (probably not) as this episode seemed to rectify itself after 12 hrs or so. Odd, very odd.
That is exactly what antivirus softwares, and / or network issues do, cause intermittent issues.
Some AV software does instantly and consistently block things, user adds exception/allow. And it works fine for a while. Then the AV software updates, and blocks things again.
Also, TVE is a ever changing thing. (and, officially, is still "BETA" feature in Channels. It could be removed at any time if they decided it was too much to support)
The TVE system and other backend things always changing a bit.
So a AV software may block those new connections or changes.
I run a custom DNS ad blocking server on my network. Its block lists update every night. I have had it block some TVE things all of a sudden, and even some websites, that i have used no issues for years.
Have to set a strict bypass for Channels DVR server, other wise, something could be blocked that causes issues. HDHR is all local LAN connections.
Explain this as it sounds like you are doing some non standard stuff here.
I am not at home right now but when I get back I’ll show you what I did
Basically I set up port forwarding for the ports that channel’s uses.
I love the stability and bloat-free performance of Linux. Some time back I moved my Channels DVR server to a dedicated sub-$100 chinese NUC running headless Ubuntu Desktop and never looked back. It is rock stable and operates flawlessly. It is fed OTA from an HDHR Flex and TVE from a YouTube-TV account. TVE has been rock stable. No authentication issues and the only "problem" is when stations are dropped from TVE when the provider introduces DRM.
I also have a Plex server running on my Media Server (under Linux, also) and have a Plex-Pass so I could set up the Plex DVR at any time. I just have no interest in doing so, even to experiment, because Channels works so well for me.
Ok so no tunneling. All you need is 8089 TCP opened.
Basically on your machine/network you have dns issues. Logs don't lie. Uninstall McAfee and then try and repeat the issue. Post some logs if it doenst work. McAfee may not be the culprit but it has to be eliminated. Also post what dns servers you are using on your router
Well thanks for looking at the logs. So it is a dns issue. That will help narrow it down. I 100% agree. My QNAP NAS is getting pretty full. I have been contemplating buys a new 4 bay NAS and moving everything onto that. Probably past time to do that. Everything just runs better on my. NAS. I really think it’s a Windows issue. Thanks for all the help. I’m not giving up yet. When it works it’s beautiful.
I have been running Channels server and Plex server on the same Windows 11 machine for one and a half years I do need to reboot it about every two months for windows updates, but otherwise I don't recall it ever being down. I have been using Philo for TVE all this time and it has never gone out totally. My computer is a plain install, no extra anti-virus, firewall, ad blocker, or vpn. As far as Channels paid support, it has been excellent for me. They have fixed a number of bugs for me. I believe many if not most problems are user type problems and that is where this forum comes in handy. Lot of experience here on this forum, and many problems are solved. Computer problems can be frustrating and we tend to always blame something that we can't control.
Well I’m glad you have received support because I haven’t. I received one email shortly after I purchased advising me to use the experimental version. Other than that, ALL emails have had ZERO responses. My expectations are that at least I receive a response. I consider my monthly subscription at least in part a payment for tech support. If they refuse to support it then just sell the program and let us figure it out. I do my best to stay off any forum groups as they are full of snarky keyboard commandos that seem to enjoy tormenting people. I use the boards as my last resort. All I’m saying is there are better options and after perusing the boards it looks like I’m not alone. Yes if your a computer programmer you can probably keep it up as I usually can but when I’m away and it’s just the wife and kids calling because the channels is down again it’s time to move on. And if I were the only person having issues then that’s on me. As I have stated, I have had a Plex server running for over 5 years now and it hasn’t gone down unexpectedly ever. I chose to use channels because I thought it would be easier for the family to manage. However throughout this process we have had to use the Plex while channels was down. So we have got used to it’s interface and can now use it as easily as channels. BTW I have never once needed tech support from Plex. So one can blame other programs installed as the reason for issues and maybe so but Plex has zero issues operating within the same environment while channels chokes if you look at it wrong. Maybe channels is an immature product but how in the world are they going to mature it if they have zero interest in correcting core issues? I also have the HD Homerun program installed and it also has had zero stability issues and it also operates without any tech support needed in this environment. So of all the servers I have on my LAN (weather station, solar, music, video, home automation etc) Channels is the only one that can’t seem to stay up. Logical next question is why? Seems the other developers gave it figured out. Would be nice to work with channels to improve their product but nothing but crickets from them. Last logical question is why continue funding a project if the developers don’t give a crap? Look I like the program but there has to be some interest by the developers to address issues and not push their tech support obligations on other users to fix.
Everyone says channels developers are on these boards. Well if that’s true where are they? This thread has been active now 4-5 days not a single comment by them. Their silence speaks volumes to me. Boils down to “your in your own people”..
Aren’t you on vacation in Jamaica?
Yes I am Ocho Rios. We spend quite a bit of time here.
Nice. I visited there many years ago, it was beautiful. Everyone I met was very kind. And the food was mmm mmmm delicious.
