PageDown not working correctly in Guide

I've been having a problem for quite some time where when I use PageDown to skip to the next page in the guide, it not only goes to the next page, but also jumps forward in time. If it's already forward in time and I hit PageDown again, it might jump back in time, or forward in time again. Behavior is a bit inconsistent. PageUp works fine. I have a Logitech remote where I am basically mimicking a keyboard via a FLIRC USB dongle. I have mapped PageUp/PageDown to some buttons on the remote, but I have ruled out the remote being the problem because the issue also happens if I plug a USB keyboard directly into the streaming device and use the PageDown key.

The issue only happens if a program is highlighted in the guide. If the channel on the far left is highlighted instead, the issue doesn't occur. I have been able to reproduce the issue on a 2019 Nvidia Shield Pro and on the original Onn 4K Pro. Both are running version 4.9.4 of the Channels app. The issue doesn't reproduce on an AppleTV running version 7.1.1 using my Logitech remote, but I also can't quite remember how I programmed my Logitech to do the PageUp/PageDown for the AppleTV.

I found the following thread where the issue was reported over a year ago, but it seems the issue couldn't be reproduced, and the thread eventually was closed out. The last reply was about a year ago.

I have linked to a video showing the problem, including me using the keyboard. Hopefully with the detail information and the video, the issue can be reproduced and fixed.

Guide jumping in time when using PageDown

The developers are trying to get 4.9.6 released in the Play Store. I believe the page up and down have been reworked. Not sure when the release will be available. You could sideload the beta version to see if it works better. There is information on how to get the beta (pre-release) version in a Knowledge Base article. Some of the information in there is getting somewhat outdated, but the sideload using the Downloader app works fine.

I downloaded the latest beta version from the Google Play store (7.17.52) and the issue still exits. To make sure I was running the latest beta version, I uninstalled the version from the Google Play version, downloaded the APK from Channels Pre-release page (channels-dvr-707170052.apk, which based on the name seems to be the same one from the Google Play store), and then sideloaded it. I then confirmed in the app that it was the same version, 7.17.52, and that it still had the issue with PageDown.

Try the experimental guide.

Yes, I forgot to mention that in the beta app you need to enable the Experimental Guide in Settings, Debug. Otherwise, you are just using the old guide.

Thanks! That seems to have fixed it. What else is new or different in the experimental guide? Besides PageDown being fixed, it looks the same.

Thanks. I actually did find that link and read over it. Seems like it's mostly stabilization and bug fixes and not really any new features. Was hoping that they would update with new features so that it works like the guide on Apple TV where the Channel collections are on the left-hand side.

Well the stabilization features were important because if you tried to scroll right quickly in the guide it would crash the app every time. At least now it's stable and does what it's supposed to.

Very much agree. I had Channels app crash on my Shield all the time. Never quite knew what it was but now I know. Fixing the PageDown is also very import, more so than getting the AppleTV style of guide.
