Pluto TV and Stirr

The docker setup is required for recording from Pluto

Works great(though I couldn't get Docker to work, used the Beta feature)!

Found a very cheap dell server, hosted it with free VMWare version, Ubuntu VM to run Channels DVR. Added Philo(20$)+Locast(5$)+Pluto(free)+ChannelsDVR(6.50 per month if annual). IMHO better than cable and 70$ a month cheaper.

Can you tell me the instructions for the Docker method? The way I added it I have graphics for the channel logo but not the now playing content.

See my post above for instructions. Unfortunately, I didn't document exactly what I did to make this work. I just fumbled through it and it worked.

Thank You! Only problem I have is what is "MTU"?

Thanks, I fixed it.

I just recorded two Pluto shows at the same time with no issues at all.

I'd be happy to go over it with you on a screen share if you'd like. Just send me your contact info.

These instructions are perfect scottuf Thank you

I hate to be "that guy", but I've never used or heard of Docker; I went to their website, but cant figure out how to install it; I see the command to run, but how do I actually install it on either of my NAS? I have a WD My Cloud Elite, and a Netgear NAS 424..my pc is a mac running osx 11.1 if that matters..
thank you very much!

Here is a copy/paste of the instructions from scottuf - I'm on a Mac too and this worked

How to add PlutoTV Add Source: select M3U Playlist Give it a nickname: e.g. PlutoTV Leave HLS as default stream Leave Source as URL Enter this URL: https://techzyon.com/epg/plutotv.m3u Once the source is added, click on trash icon. You should see an option "Pick Guide Provider", click on this button. Under the dropdown where it shows USA, select Custom URL. Enter this URL: https://techzyon.com/epg/plutotv_guide.xml Click on save. The PluoTV channels should now show up in the guide.

thanks, jack, I did this and it seems to work, although the Stirr epg isnt working as well as pluto is, and the programs on pluto seem to lock up regularly after running for awhile...I wanted to try it with Docker, but cant seem to find an image to install Docker on my Ready nas 424..

That's not 100% accurate. As long as you have correct guide data for the M3U, you should be able to record just fine, docker or no. It worked for me — smile

Yea but the shared xml doesn't tag movies and shows correctly so you can't setup passes or record movies and have them appear in the movies section. These issues were fixed in the xmltv generated by the docker.

But you can record and playback a show. It may not have all the fancy bells and whistles, but it is possible to record.

Don't misunderstand me, I appreciate all of the hard work that has been done with the Docker implementation for Pluto TV. I use the EPG and edited the M3U provided from the Docker implementation for my setup, because I wanted to customize the channel numbers.

It was only my intention to clarify for new or casual Channels DVR users what the bare minimum requirements are to get things running — smile

Sure. I'm just making it clear that if you use the shared m3u/xmltv:

  1. your streams and recordings will cut out randomly (if someone else using the m3u tunes the same channel at the same time)
  2. passes will not work correctly and may fail to record new episodes

If that doesn't matter to you, then by all means continue to use it. Just don't complain to us when problems occur.

does the docker app have to be installed on your NAS if thats where your Channels folders and such are, or can they be installed on your local pc?
The Docker website doesnt really help out on any of my questions, and I know that I shouldnt expect anyone here to help with another app, I just need a little guidance if someone would be kind enough to give a bit! :innocent:

I have Channels DVR on an Nvidia Shield and Docker on a PC.
So, yes you can install Docker on your local PC
