It has been almost a year since the last non-beta Android/FireTV release. Many improvements have been made, including the new experimental guide. Although the new guide has some bugs that may only occur for me, I think it is better than the current release. Though I don't use the guide much, so I may not be the best judge. We don't have any of the new Apple TV features, but there have been many significant fixes. I am fine just running the beta version, but I have a couple of devices that can only run the released version.
4.9.6 was released to the Play Store on June 28th, 2026 with some pretty significant updates.
This version has not landed on the Amazon AppStore because they have placed the latest release in app store limbo and won't respond to us.

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately, it hasn't made it to my Google Play Store. I have checked five different devices and they are on 4.9.4 which is the latest in my Play Store. The Amazon AppStore has been a problem in the past. Hopefully it won't be too long before they get it squared away.
As well, I only have version 4.9.4 on my phone, and it's the only version in the Google Play Store that I can see. So neither Google OR Amazon have published any 4.9.6 version that I can see...
It looks like only Channels for HDHomeRun 4.9.6 got published on the Play Store.
We're looking into it.

Apparently, Google and Amazon have no problem updating the Channels for HDHomeRun app to version 4.9.6. They just haven't been able to update the Channels Whole Home DVR app.
As of 08/04/2026, there hasn't been a channels 4.9.6 update show up on the Google Play store for me

It's not there for anybody as of yet. Not sure what the holdup is.

4.9.6 is on the Playstore as a BETA!
If you join the Channels beta program, the Playstore will then allow you to install version 4.9.6.
It's labeled: 4.9.6.beta-v707170052
You can get the beta version from the playstore, but then you won't ever get the released version unless you drop out of the beta program. Some people don't want to be beta testers and I prefer to have the option to have both the released version and the beta version.
It seems Amazon and Google have put a hold on the released app update. I expect the developers are trying to get it resolved. Hope it doesn't take too much longer.
The beta version is better than the older stable version. I'll take it for now.
i was under the impression that channels was just about to publish a non-beta update but that was a month ago. i guess i misunderstood.
Apparently, the app update in the stores is a bigger problem than we hoped. Oh well, I can use the beta version in most of my devices. It does bother me that the released version is not acceptable for google or Amazon.
