(Xfinity) TVE not working - Cable Provider auth failed / password reset

M1 mac....brand new 1st gen platform and hardware... expect issues.

Did you get a password reset security email from Comcast? If not....you most likely have a different issue. Suggest you make your own thread then.

I am using a M1 Mac Mini as my server and TVE via Xfinity works fine. Iā€™ve run into the same issues as others have suggested that passwords need to be reset/accounts need to be re-authenticated (ie there is ā€œsuspicious activityā€) but it happens rarely and has not occurred (knock on wood) since I used a secondary account for the DVR (7 days ago or so). Iā€™m in agreement with others regarding usage patterns or perhaps updates where multiple authentications or multiple simultaneous streams were being used is likely a contributing factor.

Hi there. Thanks for working on this consistent issue with Xfinity TVE. Could you confirm if we need to do anything special with Chrome chroot to make sure we donā€™t run into these password reset issues that kick this source out of our settings?

Do you recommend placing Xfinity at the bottom of the source priority and also disabling channels in the Xfinity source channel list and only leaving enabled the channels we need? I have multiple sources, so do I need to do anything special to make sure these source priority and channel disabling settings stick to my DVR server?

Iā€™m using the Xfinity TVE login on an Apple Silicon Mac mini M1 Channels DVR server that is not located on the Xfinity home network and is instead on Google Fiber Webpass. I also use Cox TVE and Locast.

Update: I updated to DVR Server 2021.03.18.0114 and Chrome 89.0.4389.90, but now I have another password reset screen from Xfinity. I really only need Xfinity for regional sports networks (NBC Sports local sports channels), so it'd be great if the TVE workflow could just authenticate specific channels for certain sources. Maybe that'd be a way around the multiple authentications that Xfinity doesn't seem to like, especially when the authentications are off the "main" Xfinity home IP / Xfinity Internet gateway router. I hope you all can consider any updates to the add source workflow to try to make Xfinity TVE work (eg, using a TVE source to only add a certain set of channels).

having this issue now.....after moving to from my Intel NUC to a Pi4.

made the move 2 nights ago, but only really started using it today, flipped threw a couple of channels, and suddenly get "Cable Provider auth failed" message.

And screen shot says Invalid username / password. etc. for any Xfinity tve stations.

Then got the Xfinity must reset your password email........

fucking Xfinity...F U!.....

I am really starting to hate xfinity too not of the CNN's or FXX affiliates working for me.

Interestingly Iā€™m not being asked to reset my password or having any issues logging into my account. Just in time for March Madness... seems a little suspicious.

Yup. i have alot of that in the log too.
I had assumed it was due to my DNS server, AdGuard Home, that is blocking the connection as i have seen that happen in the log first, but then it works fine after it re-tries.
But now i see it still after i disable AGH DNS filtering.

TBS online works with the U/P. No issues with password reset, etc.

I just got a password reset email for the first time. i reset the password, deleted the source in channels and tried re-adding it, but channels just gives an error similar to others here. i sent in an email to support. running latest pre-release on debian with Chromium 88.0.4324.182.

You hit some sort of lockout..
Must wait at least minimum 48 hours before trying again and don't try to load any channel or add it back to channels or it'll reset the clock.

I just reset the password back to what it was before and didn't even bother to remove it from channels just disable it as a source from the client Wait the two days and then re-enable it and it should work.
That's the trick I've done a couple times before in the past when this has happened. Cuz like you've discovered if you delete it as a source from the server you're not able to add it back.

I have a thread in the Apple TV forum as well where I had this happen to me today. However, I do have the HGTV app installed on my Apple TV and while it says I am logged in via Xfinity, I can't access any content so it does appear to be Xfinity and not necessarily TVE or Channels.

Well, i can loginto ang tve network site or app fine with my Xfininty account.
All the times this has happened, never had an issue with that aspect, after i changed the password that is.
it just took Channels 2days, of not touching it, inorder for Xfinty to allow the authentication.

This is not fixed. 2FA is off and I still get the authentication error. I can open a tab and log in to to xfinity with no issues. I even created a new "view only" user and that doesn't work either.

Yeah I can logon to FX FXX and FXM CNN and HLN on their sites using xfinity credentials but not working in channels dvr.

I'm surprised to see all my extra videos gone since I deleted the xfinity source. Is that a bug?

Also, will all my passes and tve recorded videos become available when the xfinity source is fixed ?

Yes, you wonā€™t have to recreate your passes. Passes are tied to series, not sources.

Ran into this issue today with Xfinity forcing me to change my password, and then getting the auth failed when deleting and trying to re-add it. Then I updated to the pre-release 2021.03.24.1847 and that seemed to fix it. Re-adding xfinity now works again.

Seconding this. Had issues last night on current stable, went to the .1847 pre-release and it works for me now.

I have now gotten a 3rd or 4th forced password reset in maybe 2 months. It doesnā€™t seem to actually trip until I try to watch something, like the problem isnā€™t happening on any background recordings, just when I try to actually tune to a channel, thatā€™s what kicks it and I get an email from xfinity thatā€™s says my password must be reset
