A few uses for Advanced Passes

#1

You get to Advanced Passes by going to the DVR->Passes section of the Channels DVR web UI.

Advanced%20Passes

One of the things I find useful with Advanced Passes is you can pause them so they don't record.
I created a couple Advanced Passes that let me see what Movies or Shows are coming up on a channel.

For the Movies or Shows on Channel you can edit the advanced pass (while keeping it paused) and see the results of your editing immediately, like chaging the channel#.

I also have a couple that list all Season and Series Premieres.

Is there a list of KeyWords ? I see you are using Season Premiere I never would have guessed that keyword ... also are they still case sensitive ?

Here Is my New Shows PrimeTime on OTA Channels 8:pm.

New Crime dramas all channels ....

#4

As far as I know they ARE case sensitive. A while ago I copied from many posts and pasted into a text file. Here's what I have. Added a separate new topic for keywords

#5

Wow thanks a lot.

#6

Here's another one I used.
Wanted to get all of the Survivorman episodes except for 'Survivorman: Bigfoot'.
Survivorman
Survivorman & Son
Survivorman Ten Days
Survivorman's Survival Secrets
Survivorman: Director's Notes
Survivorman: Lost Pilots

Since not all of these were in the guide (and that's 6 different Series ID's), I created an advanced pass that uses both Title CONTAINS and Title NOTEQUAL and it worked.

#7

Has multiple of the same condition always been available? For some reason I thought only one per condition type was possible.

A regular favorite of mine is to use the condition of time CONTAINS AM, to record certain shows that play all day long but that I don’t want Channels to be recording all day long.

#8

I’m curious, does anyone else wish the Web UI would indicate which passes contain advanced conditions?

#9

Like this?

You have to click the 3 dots to the right of the pass title to display that on each pass

#10

Yeah. I’m obviously mistaken, but curious if it was ever the case?

#11

I think they mean this. It does not work.

This works ...

#12

Ah interesting. Perhaps that is what I hit up against, and then figured I couldn’t stack them. This is great!

#13

@chDVRuser One other question about your Survivorman example. A while ago I tried an advanced pass to record all Rick Steves shows (using a title contains), instead of lots of individual passes to capture his individual shows (which have different titles). But what I found is that when using this kind of advanced pass, Channels was no longer smart enough to skip already recorded shows, and I ended up with lots of duplicate recordings. Is that not happening with your pass?

#14

I thought this was correct.
A series pass uses the seriesid and will not rerecord something. A title contains pass will so you have to keep up with your scheduled recordings and prune as necessary.
Until Edwin proved me wrong

#15

I thought this was fixed someone had the same question and they said it compares series iD's. Scroll down a bit.

#16

I guess the only way to know for sure is try it. It's been a long time since my last Survivorman episode recorded.

Maybe setup a test recording of something and see if it records duplicate episodes.

#17

Feel free to open new threads for each different type of advanced pass.

#18

I did this and it told me that shows were already recorded ... so it will not rerecord.

#19

Thanks, updated my post. Good to know.
I do remember having to babysit the recording schedule when I did mine, but that was quite a while ago.

#20

I’ll have to give it a try again. I know for a fact that when I originally tried with the title contains that it was recording the exact same episodes multiple times.
