BETA: Channels 3.0 for Android and Android TV

There’s no distinction in content for recordings and imported episodes and movies. According to Channels they are the same.

For Channels, recording and importing are just two different ways of adding content to your library.

Because of this, the option to hide delete buttons for one thing or the other isn’t something that we’ll be adding.

If they are to be treated the same and displayed together, can we get episodes from the two different sources to sort properly together so that up next works when there are episodes of the same show from both recordings and imports?

It should be working like that. That’s how it’s designed. If you’re seeing something different, please report the show name and the path to the imported episode files.

Its not sorting correctly. Show is Days of Our Lives. Recordings are stored at C:\DVR Imports are stored at Z:\Tivo Now Playing\

All episodes import but they are not sorting together. The imported episodes are not sorting in order on their own. It seems to not be dealing with 3 digit episode numbers correctly. I also sent diagnostics last week for this issue but could do so again.

I'm remotely helping a new Channels user and hoping this is the right thread. His DVR Server is running the latest pre-release and the Channels app is connecting via his FireTV Cube. All working great. Today he set up some Channel Collections but they're obviously not on his FireTV app because that app's is still just the release version. So now, how does a FireTV user get the latest beta app installed? Does this require sideloading the Google Play Store in order to get the beta app? Or is there an easier, more direct way? Or is it not possible... and he just needs to wait? All good either way, it sparked my curiosity, is all. Thanks for any answers.

However collections are not yet available in android beta

OK understood, thanks for the quick reply!

Please, pretty please even, can we get a clock on the EPG or somewhere?

Very funny. The first rule of Channels DVR is you don't ask about a clock!

Have asked about this in the past also it's one of, if not THE, top requested features. Doesn't seem like a huge technical hurdle but maybe there's a good reason that it is not being added.

Agreed, it is probably the most requested features, yet I've never heard a peep from the devs on the subject (and they are usually pretty great at responding). My only takeaway is that they don't like clocks, and refuse to even acknowledge the request :).

My speculation is that a clock in a grid guide would cause a copyright violation or incur additional licensing fees. There is a reason hdhr uses horrible slice view and claims it’s the next greatest thing. Hdhr doesn’t want to pay the licensing for a grid. I have no proof for the above statements and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Every DVR I have used has a Clock on the overlay when playing a video has nothing to do with copyright even the free ones have a clock on the onscreen overlay.

EMBY , Plex , Sagetv , NEXTPVR all have clocks on the onscreen display I guess they want to be different.

Every home screen interface on every TV device I've ever used has had the option of a clock. From cable boxes to TiVo. Channels is the first DVR I've used that doesn't. I still miss it.

 Can we move this conversation to one of the other clock threads?

We just keep a small digital clock in the living room. Problem solved. I would much rather see developers working on DVR issues than a clock.

Same reason there are no clocks in a casino.. they don’t want you to realize how much time you’ve spent as a couch potato!!

Well, that introduces a different problem. We don't want a digital display constantly in view of the TV. Especially during movies. It can be distracting. But, when we're browsing the guide or Channels' interface looking for something else to watch, or when we pause, that information is certainly useful and welcome.

Channels for Android & Fire TV 4.0 was released today bringing almost all of the features from last year's big tvOS/iOS update. Thanks to everyone for helping with this!
