LinkPi encoder family

Anyone have recommendations as to the best LinkPi settings for fast action sports viewing? (single LinkPi, hardwired Gigabit network)

I got this from AI a few months ago and it works for me: h.264 high, 8500 kbps, VBR, 60 fps, GOP 2

Look above for some earlier posts in this thread. Theres a few posts with some some settings. That's what I use.

For those using the Elgato Cam Link 4k on an Enc1v3, did it take anything special to get it working? Whenever I plug mine in, i see only gray screens for the previews on the dashboard and the streams for both HDMI and USB don't work. I have another usb capture dongle that works fine at 720p60 but once I swap it the Elgato, it appears to break both HDMI and USB. I've tried all of the USB ports and rebooted several times. I'm on the latest linkpi firmware and the Elgato stick appears to work fine when hooked up to a computer.

Nope, just worked. Maybe you have a bad unit?
Best Buy sells them so it's worth ruling that out. I did get a bad one out of my 3.

Try a factory reset from the LinkPi WebUI.

Ah yes, I did run into issues that a factory reset fixed. However I did also have a wonky unit as well.

I just plugged mine in and it worked right off... I bet the factory reset will help.

I have this exact same problem when I plug in any USB 3.0 capture device. The Elgato is a bit too rich for my wallet, but I have tried a couple different Amazon no-name USB 3.0 1080P 60fps capture devices and as soon as I plug them in, everything craps out on the Linkpi. My cheapo USB 2.0 1080P 60fps device works just fine.

Has anyone tried a factory reset, as suggested? Did it work? I'm hesitant to try as I don't like fooling with things which are working. I'd hate to knock something else out in the process...

I did try the factory reset of the link pi to no avail. I do have another cheapo USB capture dongle that claims to be usb 3.0 and it works albeit at a max of 50fps at 1080p. Here are the things that I've tried that haven't worked on the elgato:

  • Factory reset of linkpi via web UI
  • 3-4 firmware updates leading up to the very latest from Linkpi
  • Updating the firmware of the Elgato Cam Link 4k
  • Attaching the elgato via a powered usb 2.0 hub

Regarding the elgato firmware, mine was originally on something that appeared to be from 2018 and through their apps, I got it to update to something from 2020. I found references to a beta firmware from 2023 that someone posted a link to on a forum somewhere but the link appeared to be broken. It'd be interesting to know what firmwares others on.

One other thing that may be relevant is that there appear to be multiple revisions of the cam link 4k. Mine is 20GAM9901 but I've seen 10GAM9901 and 20GAM9902 on ebay listings.

I decided to try it myself, with the same results as you.:no_entry_sign: I don't think that there's any way to update firmware on these no-name devices I have. So, I will probably be sending my cheapo USB 3.0 devices back to Amazon.

My USB 2.0 device may not really output 1080p 60fps. It's more likely 30 fps. I'd really prefer a more capable capture device like the Elgato. But, I will have to find one which will work with my LinkPi Enc5-V2. The documentation says that the LinkPi has USB 3.0. But, I'm beginning to doubt the veracity of that specification.

I may just live with my USB 2.0 30fps. It's the input for the third tuner in line for my ADBTuner stack. It probably won't see much action until more channels get DRM'd out of my TVE source.

I can confirm that ENC1-V3P is able to bypass HDCP. Can ENC5-V2 do the same?

Pretty sure that HDCP is not been an issue for any of these encoders no matter what the source is, I've never run into any on the three different ones that I've bought.

And I've got two of them hooked up to my provider's Android STBs which I would guess have HDCP.

My ENC5-V2 works just fine with onn boxes, so HDCP should not be an issue.

Can confirm, no HDCP issues on any of the LinkPi devices I've used, including my ENC5-V2.

I'm not sure which one I have, but I do have three of them. One was purchased from Best Buy, one was purchased Amazon and another was purchased from eBay, and I'm all certain they're the same model. I believe it's whatever the newest Elgato makes. These guys do go on sale every now and then for about $79 so I would recommend waiting until then before buying one. It sounds like you've perhaps got an older one, possibly maybe it sounds like off eBay and that could be why you're running into issues. Might also be worth reaching out to Elgato Support to see if they can help.

I also have a tool where you can plug it into a computer and view the stream directly off of that. That might be worth trying to see what kind of frame rate you're getting.

I also know the older Elgato models have a setting that you have to tweak to get it to work possibly.

On an older one, you can try changing the USB transfer mode, and that might get it working for you. It's not valid on the newer ones though. The new ones don't support this setting anymore and don't seem to need it.

Also, make sure your LinkPi is on the latest firmware. I know they made some changes recently to USB CAM functionality.

So my ENC1-V3 has developed a REALLY annoying bug that I haven't been able to solve

So I had an issue after upgrading where the web ui won't respond after an upgrade, but the box still works as an encoder

After living with this for a while, I decided to try and recover. I did an older USB restore, and upgraded the many MANY firmware items in-line. Seemed to fix it for a while.

Now, after no action from me, the same thing is happening again. Box works, but web ui doesn't respond.

Anyone having anything like this? Just so odd...

have you tried a Reset Defaults in the system menu after firmware was done? (i find this best practice on any device firmware updates)
I've actually ran into the opposite situation when playing with the hdmi output too much, ah4c loses the linkpi, but otherwise it works fine. simple power cycle fixes this though. I'm trying to decide when to have it schedule a reboot.

I could try that, but the USB reset sets it back to defaults at restore, and i didn't change anything except maybe IP until i updated to the latest. I even did all the non-mandatory firmwares.

I am new user of ENC5-V2. I hooked up Nvidia Shield to this device via hdmi and tried to play a video using plex. Tried to watch this stream using VLC on a computer, the video was fine but the audio volume is too low.

Is there any way to increase the volume?
