I'm in the same boat there. You might do what I did. Get a HD HomeRun Prime + CableCard. That way I could get ABC.
@Mikchek are you able to set up an antenna and get the channels OTA? You can go to this website https://www.antennaweb.org/ put in your address and it will tell you what channels you can get with an antenna. If that isn't a possibility maybe see if you can share a cable or streaming package with someone.
damn I was trying to get away from the HDHR...I was actually using TVE from my moms account in NY lol but I just remembered I do have a very basic xfinity service for internet and that should have abc...I still gotta use a damn cable card
I think your only choices are antenna or a cable subscription. I'm dusting off my old HD Homerun and antenna. I live out near Gainesville and can get most channels that matter to me. However, I am pleased to find that my Philo subscription actually includes PBS on TVE. PBS has been difficult for me to get by antenna.
Most providers have locked down ClearQAM. If that's what you're thinking. You would need SOME form of cable package. They might offer a locals only package.
For me. It's (Ion) Laff I can't get on Antenna, or cable sadly. Only Locast.
100% guaranteed they will close for good. There is 0% chance they will remain operational. "It's over Johnny". I will never understand why something that broadcasts over the air for free can even charge a transmission fee. It's ridiculous. Locast was not removing commercials, etc. This was not Pay TV, it was broadcast TV that is payed by advertiser's commercials. It's sad but for anyone trying to hold on and hoping for a miracle it's NOT going to happen. RIP Locast
I'm in the same boat. I live where there is no OTA service and can only use satellite or the streaming services. Channels fit the bill to give me full control of my own DVR and the price was right.
whats wack is with so many people using streaming devices it was perfect. why doesnt xfinity have a damn apple tv app ugh!!!
Because Apple does not make anything easy so locked down maybe?
It is ridiculous, so imagine you live in the UK where a license fee is required from anyone viewing OTA television. People there don't like that of course. I recall years ago hearing of inspectors being physically attacked after knocking on doors to inquire about unlicensed antennae. I was recently reminded of this when I saw a news story reporting that after a local antenna tower fire in England knocked out reception, people in that area were to receive license fee refunds.
Their rationale is that the BBC is a state-funded broadcaster, but I've seldom met anyone there who will defend the situation.
wow. that was fast ....
Without being a massive fanboy, Channels makes it possible to deal with significant loss like this without tremendous impact on the end user. I was just looking at my channel collection that we use for normal consumption and we only use 8 out of the 32 channels we got from Locast. I have already found another source for one of them (Philo/PBS) and will pull in the remaining 7 via antenna. I suppose you could hack around and do the same thing with other platforms, but this is cool stuff.
I am getting PBS only for locals through Spectrum but no guide data? Funny that I get guide data on CBS but it doesn't work. Crap, I guess I need to fire up the TiVo or spend $80 for a Homerun.
edit...guide data for PBS working now, still no other locals.
Same here, OTA is not an option. I do have a feed from our Dish subscription running thru Channels, but even that does not allow ABC and some locals.
I can't find my old antenna. Oh no, I think it might be under my toilet paper hoard
Locust just went off the air.
Where did you hear that?
about 3 hours ago...welcome to the party.
Yes I received the email from them this morning that they are immediately suspending operations, all streams are dead for me now.
