TVE Troubleshooting tips

Troubleshooting steps to follow, like a checklist. No need to do every step if one fixes the issue.

Refresher: How Channels DVR TVE works

1. If you can't watch the network at their Live streaming website, nothing Channels can do. Like nbc.com/live or the networks check availability buttons at Channels Support - TV Everywhere Availability for your Provider

2. Make sure your package or container (if running in one) is up to date.

3. Update to the latest DVR prerelease version see this article for how

4. Run troubleshooting from the DVR web UI Support>Troubleshooting and make sure all green checkmarks. (If it says Chrome corrupted or not up to date, it should offer a green fix button to click.)

5. Make sure your chrome or headless chrome is up to date. (Troubleshooting in step 4 should show)

6. Disable any ad blocker extensions running in your browser, see user post Recent Xfinity TVE auth failure - #3 by brownpeel

7. Try playing the failing channel a few times to see if it will re-authenticate (I do this in the web UI).

8. Close all browser windows and open a new private/incognito browser window to access your dvr (Some users had to access the DVR web UI remotely or using secure HTTPS to add a source)

9. Open a second tab in the same browser window and login to nbc.com/live, dismiss any popups/notifications your provider may display on login, but take note of them as this may cause an issue when Channels DVR does it.

10. Before rescanning individual channels, and before removing a source to re-add, use Update Password under the gear dropdown next to your source in the DVR web UI and just key in your existing Provider password to clear the chromedata folder (likely used with other providers, but known to be used for Spectrum and Xfinity per this post)

11. If adding a TVE source, click and HOLD the Login button.

12. Individually rescan channels with issues using Rescan Channels under the gear dropdown next to your source in the DVR web UI.

13. Reboot your server or restart your package or container if running in one.

14. Remove and re-add your source, then individually rescan any channels with issues.

15. If all the above fails, submit DVR diagnostics from the DVR web UI Support>Troubleshooting.

Some other tips.

• If running in a container, use the TVE container Docker Hub
• Using a VPN or geo-location blocker is not supported. Disable these temporarily when adding a TVE source or scanning channels.
• Use a secondary provider account with 2FA/MFA/Recovery options disabled.
• Some users report that changing their password with their provider fixed auth issues.

Provider - Xfinity

If you use Xfinity for both TV & DVR, and are running Channels DVR at the Xfinity service address, then you should set Auto Authentication to ON. That way the DVR doesn't need to try to enter your user/password at all.

Although I have both Xfinity TV and Internet, it works better for me when it's OFF.

If your Provider is Xfinity, use a secondary Viewer role account for Channels DVR
and use the username, not [email protected] for Channels DVR TVE.
